Constant crashing since patch 9.11

Ever since patching to 9.11, and subsequent 9.11X flavors, I've experienced massive hard drive thrashing followed by crash. Error message is usually "an unexpected disconnection has occurred". I may crash 3-4 times before I can get a stable game, and once in it happens infrequently while playing, noticebly more after portaling to town or entering a new area.
Nothing on my end has changed and my internet connectivity is stable. | |

Does the client actually crash, or is it just a disconnection? And is this when you first log in, on the character selection screen, or during the loading of the game itself?
