sockets question

hi

i have one question

when i have an item with 5 red sockets linked and i put into groundslam,melee physical,item quantity,added fire damage,life leech does this olnly take effect on that item?

i ask this because if i have another item and put into fast attacks,melee physical,fire damage,life leech does this also take effect on the weapons speed?

so how would like the best weapon,armour has to look can you post examples pictures

The links only effect what's on that item.
