[3.27] The sturdy Ice Nova Templar

Hmmm ... I think the resistance over the cap is lost ... and the altars are bitting directly into the 86% that I have max. Not sure that's how it goes, but that seems logical to me.

" Overcap is lost in a vacuum, but in mapping you have several ways your resistance can be lowered. Some of the ways are not able to be easily mitigated, such as the map mod -x% to all max res. But eldritch alters bite into your total resistance, not your max resistance. This is easy to test, just grab a minus resistance alter and pull up your character info tab. Youll only see your resistance go below your max cap if you dont have enough overcap. For examle, on my current character, which stacks lightning resistance to scale mana, I still have cold resistance on my boots, as it allows me to take 1 Eater alter with minus cold resistance, with double effect from tree, without killing my cold resistance https://poe.ninja/poe1/builds/keepers/character/Piousqd-0073/NvrRangerBaited?i=0&search=name%3Dnvr “Freedom is what we do with what is done to us.” Last edited by Piousqd#0073 on Jan 2, 2026, 3:28:25 PM

Thanks for the info, very useful!
I assumed it is like the the -12% or -20% from the map properties. |

I discovered one more useful setting for the body armour:
You can add block (spell or attack) up to 10% from the Eater influence! That would be a full major skill if you have the finances to support it, a thing that you cannot do on the uniques. I used the lesser eldritch ichor for now, and switched from 18% armor to 5% extra spell block, but in the future 10% is on my list of todos. https://poedb.tw/pob/YpQChCVMWI |

Yes, eldritch implicits are very strong, and certainly a downside to running a unique chest.
One of the trade offs, it is usually cheaper to double corrupt uniques than well rolled rare chest, allowing you to get 2 additional implicits to help make up for the power loss tho. Example: For your eldrich, block is generally easier to get from other sources, for eldritch i would suggest phys damage taken as an element for eater, and for exarch, either max res, crit multi, or if using mageblood, potentially % effect of flasks. Example: “Freedom is what we do with what is done to us.”

|
" Max resists is a given ... but spell block seems better choice to me compared to physical taken as an element, especially since I can reach 60k armour with determination. |
|
" Phys taken as mod is almost always the right answer, but even if you think its not, I would say that aura effect is better than spell block. Spell block is just easy to pick up from the tree. Speaking of auras, why does POB say you have wrath and determination, while running eternal blessing. You can only have 1 aura with that support. “Freedom is what we do with what is done to us.”

I have both .. only using Wrath usually. Switching if I feel the physical damage is dangerous for me.
I disabled Determination in Pob. LE: So you consider having 20% more Wrath is better than 10% more Spell Block ?! 4% More Damage vs huge boost to defense ?! Sure you can get that from the tree, but there are tons of skills you need to take from the tree and it is not so easy to reach the extra 10% block. LLE: Btw I tried this wand as an alternative to custom rare wand. It seems it comes close to a custom rare wand, especially without Haunted, but it still is 5%-10% weaker than the hauntless rare. Still it could be a cheap alternative. Last edited by EmpRadu#4619 on Jan 7, 2026, 3:32:28 PM

again, I think that the unique chest is better for the svalinn version of the build, as seen in the lazy ice nova post. That build solves block effectively without the chest implicit and works great.
I believe for dual wand, a rare chest is better, but in that case, spell suppression should be used and block is not very applicable. In all cases though, Icenova is just no longer top tier since the nerfs to the skill. I am currently playing KBOC lighting res stacker, and it feels significantly better than nerfed ice nova on everything except ubers. “Freedom is what we do with what is done to us.” Last edited by Piousqd#0073 on Jan 7, 2026, 4:33:04 PM

And I think you are wrong :)
Damage is better with the lazy ice nova, but eHP is better on this version. If I go below one million eHP, I think I can get better damage than right now. And your builds should not be taken into account, as you have insane artifacts, don't know how you managed to get them :), you must be very experienced and league might have better drop rates from some of those arties. |
