I think I found the real problem with minions, and why everyone wants to play the same ranged spectres every league, and also why necro is absolutely to most popular class in the game.
simple: minions attack in place and not moving but the player can move, by the time the player is getting near the enemies the only thing that can follow is a projectile. This I think aplies to other classes as well, and you can also see that in every skill that you have to stop to use. (and probably die in place because of stun, some bullshit ground effect, or a stack of 20 flying balls.) Just look at the popularity of cyclone, you can move, you can attack while moving and you have the chance to dodge whatever you need to. I truly believe most if not all skills should allow player movement while using it, and also some or even all could even have target assist locking on enemies, similar to flicker strike or ambush, that would make then not feel terrible and needing some kind of "not even need to press a button" automation like coc or cwdt. The devs keep adding these skills trying to make people play with non automatic skills, like changing retaliation skills and now adding these new supports but the problem of attacking in place persists, not to mention link skills, not only they have a duration but you also have to AIM at one character in a game that everything is exploding on crack all the time. I don't think I have to expand any more, I never played any skill that wont allow me to keep moving, it always feels clunky and terrible.
