Breach 2.0 not fun as flickerstriker/melee
|
Breach 2.0 isn't as fun as Breach 1.0, there I said it. Some players have already brought up large issues with Breach 2.0 which I don't go into those here.
Breach 1.0 and flickerstrike worked very well together: kill mobs quickly in circle and don't die. Kill bosses and don't die. This Breach 2.0 league took Breach as one of flickerstrike's best mechanics and made it one of the worst by having us defend Alith to reach a win condition. Despite Matt saying GGG tried not to change the formula, I feel like Breach 2.0 mechs strayed too far from it. Now Breach revolves around A. defend Alith and B. click buttons on the ground C. Defend Alith so more in a Hive, D. only sometimes do you get the good ol' 1.0 "Breach" resembling what players loved. Because it is now mostly about the defend Alith minigame, Breach departed from the main feel of Breach 1.0 which was kill enemies and stay alive in the breach. Players liked opening up 1 or more breaches in their maps, it was really cool. It seems like multiple overlapping breaches isn't a thing anymore? Sad. Breach 2.0 is a glorified "defend the Amber tree" ore deposit minigame, which I always disliked the most out of the ore deposit minigames. I don't think really anybody who likes Breach 1.0 wants Breach to become "defend the Amber tree", so that was a swing and miss IMO. Defending Alith from 360 degrees mobs rushing in is very heavily unfavorable to melee characters. Piece of cake for ranged screen-clear characters I've read, must be nice. Come on GGG, melee is already hard enough to play, at least don't make Breach 2.0 mechanic itself shaft us melee players. Even though they are patching her hp, my feedback is I don't like having to defend her at all. Just take her out. Additionally, having to defend Alith from all directions also has the unintended consequence of the player primarily just watching the red dots on their mini-map during the sequence, attacking in that direction, player (me) is not actually watching the gameplay, just mini-map staring, watching those red-dots disappear, occasionally looking back to find a button or see what's hitting Alith. Was this a Blight rework? This is another reason to take away having to defend Alith, it promotes mini-map UI staring. The button mechanics are cool, but clicking them while moving and having 50 mobs on me is also not easy as melee. Overall, I'd like Breach 2.0 not to have buttons be a core mechanic. I feel like devs mostly played stationary ranged builds when designing new Breach and did not test if it was fun for melee. Hives: It should be more epic and distinct from the Breach content you run into in maps. Going from 7waves to 24waves and some chests scattered about, isn't really exciting. The art is amazing there, but the gameplay is meh. I wouldn't mind seeing the center of the Hive re-done. Maybe it has waves with the final wave always a boss. (I haven't actually got to see a Hive boss yet because apparently I'm a stupid melee player, I'm at tier 10 maps) Suggestion for how to fix: Take away Alith having a healthbar and having to defend her, just make player have to defeat X number of waves to close the Breach. Same for Hive, just make player have to survive and defeat all waves to close the Hive. The whole defend Alith mechanic is scuffed, and really bad for melee, especially flickerstrike players. Get rid of having to defend her would make it more like Breach 1.0. Please go back to the drawing board with Breach 2.0 to make it just about killing enemies/waves with no defending Alith required. The only thing I'm passionate about is Breach 2.0 removing the defend Alith/Ambertree mechanic and not making that go core. Last bumped on Nov 4, 2025, 1:45:08 PM

There's Breaches and Hives/Fortresses. I think there's a big difference.
Breach 2.0 is literally Breach 1.0 with a new coat of paint. What you have issues with is Hive and Fortress. And I can see why flicker strike users would have issues, because it's a downgrade from Blight as a tower defense. PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.
Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build! And the winds will cry / and many men will die / and all the waves will bow down / to the Loreley |

Ok to clarify, my issue is with HIVES/FORTRESSES, don't like them revolving around defending Alith

1000% Agreed. Imagine being punished because the seasonal content is in a circle and Alith is damaged from AoE! I agree that this problem only exists in the 24 wave variation but still.
