Respec Woes
Hey I created a level 12 Marauder today and it took like 2 hours to get to level 12. I realized one handers and tanking sucked big time and wanted to respec.
I went to my skill tree and found 3 free point refunds? I dont know why. I went to the vendor and he wanted an unknown currency for more respec points. Basically it is very difficult to respec, similar to Diablo 2. I think Diablo 3 did the right thing by making respecs free. Their problem is that there are too few useful skills and cookie cutter specs, both which should not be a problem on POE. I think the developers don't want to give free respecs because people will find cookie cutter specs very quickly and it gives more time wasted(and gamers will apparently play more) This is a strange concept. There are features in this game like infinite TP in boss fights and enemy health no regenerating which makes it fun and fluid, yet here you are restricting respecs for the sake of not allowing cookie cutter specs. Do you already admit there are cookie cutter specs that everyone will use eventually? Or do you just want to deny potential fun by letting players play how they want? I don't want to remake my character and at the same time, I don't want to struggle doing 2% of the enemy's health per hit as a one hand tank weakling class. Only leaves one option.... |

I must've had over 50 level 12+ in my time and I still love the game and never want respec to be easier.
Sorry to say it jeremynativecom but this game just might not be for you. You sound like a very casual player. |

I'm sorry too. This is a well-discussed feature, hotly contended and never quite put to rest. But the devs have made their stance very clear: they like the idea of respeccing being at least something of a challenge and that you should plan your character carefully. This is why they provide the website's 'passive skill tree' to play with.
I will admit, we all get it wrong. I've had to start over at a MUCH high level than 12, although I'm sort of happy to do so if it means learning more efficient methods of getting through normal difficulty. It's all part of the learning process. There is, at this point, virtually no chance that a complete respec will be a one-hit option for any character in PoE beyond the necessary resets when GGG patches in a new version of the Skilldrasil. Just the way it is. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.
I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period. |
