Massive threads only come from Uber Sirus.
The other 4 variants only come from normal Sirus.

Wiki lists Thread of Hope as a 6-7% chance and if you're not running exclusively normal Sirus, that's still within normal ranges.

While there are other bugs with merc kills like eldritch altars, I don't see boss drops being one of them as other boss loot is still dropping. Not saying it is impossible to be bugged, but far more likely to be an unlucky streak than it is one specific loot out of all the drops is tied to player kill. And the only way to get real data is either do a lot more kills or combine data with other people playing the support build.
