Kingsmarch workers gone

Just unlocked Johan and kingsmarch.

Jumped into kingsmarch and spent some 20k gold, recruited 3 workers in the process and deposited my remaining gold into the town.

Left kingsmarch, and for some reason, I was impelled to check on the town through Johan without actually visiting the town.

Only to discover all deposited gold and assigned workers gone. All working slots displayed as 0 workers.

Where'd they go?
Assuming they'd been rolled back, I don't have my gold rolled back.
