Decoy Totem counts as minion with Dark Monarch Unique Helmet

Hello, I am trying to use the skill, decoy totem. However, it does not show up unless I remove my helmet, that suspiciously has the line, "Cannot have minions other than Raised Spiders." However, my gamer intuition (and google) tells me that totems are not minions. this is very puzzling. thanks :3

to recreate: purchase a delectable little decoy totem gem. Step two: Purchase a sweet little Dark Monarch helmet. Attempt to summon your beautiful, enticing decoy totem, grimace in despair as the decoy totem refuses to be seen.
