PoE 1 OG Main OST (before 3.0).

Since the next PoE 1 league is still some time away i wanted to bring in the original music tune from the main menu. IIRC it was changed to the actual Dominus theme when 3.0 dropped in 2017.

This was the first piece of music art i was greeted back when i joined in 2012 beta. Music kinda touches some switches for me making you feel like you're a marooned dude fighting for your life on an unfamiliar place.

PoE was suggested for me on the D3 forums at a time when inferno was the max. difficulty and most players got filtered by the Act 2 early poison bugs.

Vanilla D3 with the inferno mode was the original ruthless/souls-like/hard mode in an ARPG.

There was a certain excitement in carefully progressing through act 2 inferno because you could get one-shot anytime. They probably had the right idea of meaningful combat (TM) and with hard difficulty in an ARPG.

However, build diversity was lacking and only a handful of cheesy tactics emerged like energy shield for wizard, shadow form for demon hunter, zombie bears for damage etc.

Also, itemisation was all about buying upgrades from trade/AH because loot drops were bad.

They threw the baby with the bathwater by removing AH (good!), increasing drops for SSF (debateable) and watering down difficulty (debateable but bad for meaningful play).
Here's the character selection sequence from that same era:

We've long since "returned to Oriath." I think it is high time we return to our roots, and to this character creation screen. It sets the mood in ways that the current one doesn't; Dominus is just an act boss, not the defining character of the game. ='[.]'=

If 4.0 ever happens and it has big basegame changes a new character selection screen would make sense i guess. The narrative reason for that could perhaps involve big lore changes / new era (post dominus).

Not sure what the main selling point of the new 4.0 for PoE1 could be now that they scrapped the original idea from 2019 and made a second game.
