Black Screen after Launch Button > Login. Not a crash, but not a go?

I have seen a few black screen posts, but most end in crashes and are not at this point. As the title states, i've redownloaded the game, and when I click launch, it opens a window. The window is black, but the bladetip mouse cursor is there and solid. From this point I cannot continue as I cannot login by memory alone. The game doesn't seem to crash, but refuses to display.

I've done 2x clean nvidia 314.22 driver installs, 2x game repairs, 2x game re-installs, all the messing with the production_Config I could think of, all the compatibility settings I could think of, antivirus has been temply disabled, UAC is off, PackCheck checks out.

My specs and what seems to be the end of a working log:

GPU: nVidia GTX 570

MOBO: Gigabyte 990FXA-UD5
HDD: 160GB Hitachi HDS721616PLA380

Not that it will necessarily work, but did you attempt to load with the --nosound argument? This can be done by right-clicking on your shortcut, going to properties, then adding --nosound to the end of the target field so it will look something like this:

Target: "C:\Program Files\Grinding Gear Games\Path of Exile\Client.exe" --nosound

See if that has any affect on the problems.

Oh yes, forgot to mention, I have an Audigy, but use the Realtek onboard. I've used both --nosound and --softwareaudio to no avail.

Can you try uninstalling your sound drviers, remove the soundcard from your PC, add the --nosound string, then try again please :)?
I'd also be a little curious to see the end of the log file after using --nosound. It shouldn't attempt to load an audio device if that is the case, so I'd like to see what the log says in that case.

I suspect it's not an actual sound issue, but I'm honestly not sure what else would cause a hang like that. Keep in mind that the initial load screen can take some time depending on the system.. especially on a non-SSD Hard Drive.

On my system (Linux/Wine) I have to launch PoE then go and do something else until I hear the login screen sounds, then I can swap back into PoE and log in and play. This can take anywhere from like 1 minute to 5 minutes depending on how my machine is behaving at the time.
End of log looks the same minus any line about sound. The card and drivers were removed, and both --nosound and --softwareaudio put to failed tests. Client.exe is currently open and has been running for about 6 minutes. I have and could transfer it to my SSD boot.

SSD would certainly give you a lot better response times.. both in terms of loading the game, as well as ingame when it has to pull non-cached effects (what a lot of people get as lag around bosses and uniques).

It's certainly worth a shot. I'll keep thinking and see if I can come up with any other suggestions.
One thing I thought of that I'm not sure if you checked....

Sometimes when the game crashes, it doesn't put the error dialog in the foreground, so the game keeps focus, but there is an error box hidden behind it. Have you attempted to alt-tab and look for other windows? specifically dialog boxes that could have been produced by the client?
Though I am completely unsure, it runs as if it is indeed functioning properly in all ways save display. As I said in my first post, I might be able to dodge this if I knew how to login by memory, but I only played this once many months ago during an open weekend. Since then i've gotten new hardware, and this would be a fresh download of the game.

I have eagerly awaited any sort of error screen or message at all, and messed my windows like a mad scientist looking for a lost formula thinking it might be something so simple. xD Alas, I keep trying.
Do you by chance have multiple video cards? Perhaps an onboard card that isn't completely disabled in the BIOS?

If you look in the production_Config.ini, does the adapter line have the proper card listed?
