Totem build.... Shock Nova or Ice Spear

Ok long story short I was thinking of a build that used totems for DPS and my character tanking / taunting with enduring cry (obviously will use other things too but you get the point). Figured this build would make it easy to position monsters to get the best benefit from positional spells such as Shock Nova, which does the most damage the further from the center you are and Ice Spear which will almost always crit after a certain range. I was going to try to get 2 totem support gems (hoping they are not to rare) and use both, Shock Nova for AoE and Ice Spear for single target.

Or should I not bother with Shock Nova and just use Ice Spear?

Any other good spells to use with totems? Trying to think of spells what would benefit from being able to position Totems away from monsters that your character is tanking.
