What makes melee bad

Nope. It's the armor/health/taking damage. Every SUCCESSFUL melee char is either wearing Kaom's, a shield, or both. I have a melee Duelist that runs dual weapons. No Kaom's. No shield. I have 60% damage reduction, 80 all res, 3k life, 10k dps, and 18% Life Leech. I get FOLDED IN HALF in maps. Even with 60% damage reduction, all it takes is 1 damage spike and I'm gone. The problem is that you go PURE Life Nodes, and stack armor and res, and it still isn't enough. I shouldn't need 7k health and 90% damage reduction to take 2-3 hits. The damage design is stupid, and it's lazy.

So yeah, exactly what I said then right? One of those 2 items is absolutely necessary for a SUCCESSFUL build, and even with one or both of them, melee is still beyond inferior. All the diversity in this game goes out the window in Cruel. You realize fast that Health Nodes, shields, and an early eye on Kaom's is all that matters. People don't play LA or FP just to be cookie cutter. They play those builds because the game is absolute shit when it comes to diversity. D3 was more diverse than this shit.

I probably don't need shield. However shield give me good margin of error to work with. What is needed is charges. I can tank +10 lvl above me. Kill all mobs that do not do Chaos damage. I'm should be able to be immune to physical damage for the entire battle as long as I can keep my micro up. I can get 92% max on any elemental resist for a short time.

The main problem for melee is Chaos damage.

In act 2 Merciless I was able to herd 20-25% of the map mob in one area. Three bosses mix IIRC? All +7 above me. With the exception of one boss (was not worth my time) I was able to finish all of them off without much effort. I'll try to post it up later on.

When you get to the point where the monsters are 10 levels BELOW you, and still able to shove your shield down your throat, you will see what we mean :/

As long as they don't do Chaos damage I can beat any mob. Just take time. I have the option to be immune to physical damage forever. I have the option to have 92% resist on elemental damage. It doesn't matter if they are 100 billion level above me. I can tank them as long as they only do physical damage.
