What makes melee bad

So I know there has been a MAAAAAAASSIVE number of these, but I think what makes melee bad has very little to do with the armor/health/taking damage.

I feel it has to do with two huge factors.

Bad targeting: A number of times you can click on or right next to enemies and just run in circles around them rather than attacking with a single target skill (or attack the air)

Kiting: Enemy ranged types will kite you, and always seem to run faster than you when the kite effect triggers (they outrun me at +79% move speed) yet will never kite/dodge the ranged players.

I dont have trouble staying alive, even in end game maps, but damn it takes so long to fight things because of all the running around ;x
And if you close your eyes, does it feel like your exalt almost hit this time~
I hope they find a way to improve cursor detection. Running around in circles trying to click one stupid skeleton is really annoying.

Sounds like you might want to consider getting a movement skill for pure utility for these cases, like leap slam.

I agree, considering leap actually because I dont have much dex to run flicker, however, the fact they can outrun me when im at +30% and then pop a quicksilver with a +move mod on it is a bit silly, no?

It's bad because you have to get in close or marginally closer than spellcaster/archer builds.

And since the lowest of mobs can crush armor pretty much instantly, well yeah.

Also, physical damage is godawful in comparison to elemental. This is like not even an opinion.
GGG gives me Diablo 2 Teleport? I give them 50 bucks. No questions asked.

While I do feel physical damage needs a fix, I dont find myself die much in melee, I just find myself having to do a ton of running because i start doing circles, or having to chase things, not to mention the closing into melee that is normally required.

It feels like melee is bad more because of an unresponsive/bad design rather than low damage/hard to live.

I know some people here are big enemies of d3 but just compare how easy it is to aim at monsters as a melee in d3 compared to poe and that should give you an idea whats wrong with melee in poe.

A lot of the melee targeting issue is due to desync, Firing an arrow while [shift] attacking is always going to hit as long as the target it selected, try shift attacking a single target ability as melee and you will find yourself missing a lot as the unit being selected is really just out of range but your client does not see it that way.

Right now hit detection of what the user is seeing and what the server is seeing happen to be indirectly contributing to the melee, ranged disparity. ( I would argue a very large part of it)
Weapons

Melee weapons are a little atrocious as well. If I want to run Marauder, I need a lot of dex for decent 1H/2H weapons. If I go 2H, I get a bit more DPS, but at the cost of life and everything else that I might pick up on a shield.

Oh there is no doubt it's unresponsive/bad design, I was just saying, the fact that if you go physical damage, you are ACTIVELY AND WILLINGLY using a damage type that is lackluster by a landslide and since that directly affects your kill speed it also affects your survivability.

I know one thing. If Flasks didn't work as they do in PoE currently, like if they were old style d2 pots, no one would ever touch melee because unless you are using something from range but then you aren't really melee then are you, you'd run out of pots INSANELY fast in this game.
