Light radius in certain conditions.
Hello GGG.
I have one major gripe with the game at the moment - light radius on low life. I generally dont have anything against it, but in this particular case it is making game nigh on unplayable. I run high rarity gear at the moment, that requires me to stay on low life to gain benefits. Namely this: . I have to be under 30% life to gain +100% rarity. In which case light radius shrinks so much that i cant do interior maps at all and dark exterior maps just barely. I understand the function of the light radius change as a game mechanic (mostly to warn on impending doom :D ) but in this case I KNOW i'm in danger. Whats the point of having an item function that penalises you twice for using it ? Once as low health (for which penalty is death) and once as low visibility (for which penalty is mostly death and inability to play in general)... Any chance to improve on this ? Say if you run % auras you also switch light radius function to act on remaining life (post auras) instead of total life... I hope i get some sort of solution for this... #Edit1# Of course this is all regarding running on passive blood magic... Wouldn't be a problem if running on normal mana... Too much to recover.
I'm losing 70-80% of light to one item. I cannot recover it with one item. And replacing all of other items kind of negates all the positive effects of the one that is causing it... |

" I manage just fine on my low life build with 1 +15% light radius increase mod. 2 of those is best though. Julius's path of exile wine bundle for mac here: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/48708/page/1 Last edited by Faerie_Storm#2108 on Apr 25, 2013, 11:39:43 AM

Faerie, pls do me an favor and upload 2 pics,
i guess when "you loose less light below 35%"got implemented 1-2years ago, it is now biting back as "you wont receive much light from 15%, until you reach 35%lifevision" + the fact that shavroneeguys are overallocating. Its a nonlinear-health-curve inside a non-linear-volumea progression condition, sort of. Still dont think the first +30% are highlighting the enemy rangers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drDs-Y5DNH8

This item is meant to give you a situational bonus, not a permanent 100% rarity increase. Better loot when fighting for your life. If you want to use it as a permanent bonus, you have to put up with the penalty: constantly be at death's door. Low life means little to a spellcaster anyway if they want to play it safe; awareness is the real killer here. This works perfectly.
Have you noticed its name? Seems like the Wonder Trap has lured you in... I love unique items with character! |

Cant really fault the logic, however, continuing the discussion i have to add that dying people dont get blind. Hehe... They'd be either in pain or seeing red, or both. But not blind...
Just saying. I still think that punishing twice is "not fair". (yeah yeah, its not a real world, blah blah... nonetheless...) |

It is not punishing twice. This is how health works in this game. The effect is the same for everyone regardless of how or why your health is reduced, and really has nothing to do with this particular item. It fits the theme of the game, harsh and unforgiving. The more you are injured, the harder it gets. This isn't a walk in the park, not even in normal.
If you happen to have low health when you kill something, you get a bonus. That is all. If you want to use it in a way it wasn't meant to, you can - and this is the beauty of PoE, you can do almost anything. But you are essentially asking to redesign and repurpose the item into MF gear. I love items like this one. They have character, personality. They are quirky. Note that it is a level 9 item. It is not meant for endgame farming, but because it is really unique, with a unique property as uniques should be, it makes you think of more creative ways to put it to use. Gameplay awesomeness. Try living with it: find areas where you can farm safely without ranged mobs being a serious threat. Tweak your skills accordingly - maybe use an escape skill such as Leap Slam to get you out of tight spots, and have an instant health flask at the ready. Think about separating xp farming from item farming: you can safely use this to item farm at the beginning of each level even if you die a lot. Maybe you can build an entire character around it. So many options. If everyone could use this for easy, straight up farming, then everyone would. Make it any easier and everything I just said is no more - what remains is just a boring MF item that you put on and forget about. I love PoE, deep, dark, unforgiving. Nothing is easy in this game - really, nothing. I wish I had the free time I had ten years ago to sink in this. |
