Portal hotkey keeps breaking

Every few maps my portal hotkey - set to '\' - stops working.

In the menu, the hot key is still allocated, but if I reselect it it allows me to save - then it works for a while again

Note, if I try to reselect the hotkey while its working it doesn't you let you save
