Character was frozen after entering a Vaal dungeon

I just entered a Vaal dungeon, if that's what they are called. My character could not move, but the game seemed to still be "active". After a minute or so, it seemed that all of my actions during the freeze were being executed at 20x speed.
Similar things have happened before where I had to log out due to the freeze of my character. It has only ever happened as a new area was loaded/loading.
