You can overcap resistances for this very reason. It's also a buffed negative mod which is made worse by a voluntary option.
=/ What is the value of my own life when it is taken from others so easily? Last edited by Noble_Seiken#0706 on Jun 9, 2023, 4:55:14 AM

" Question is, what's the point of a downside so massive that basically no build in the game can click it? Like who has all his resis overcapped by that much? 20-50 res over cap, sure, but 11x, even on chaos which is hard to come by as it is? Realistically speaking this isn't even about risk/reward or making choices anymore this is a simple: "You can't pick this option" type of case. It's even worse than no regen/leech map mods. Those are also impossible to run for many builds but there are way more builds that can compared to builds that can deal with -11x on two resistances. Sure, "Just don't click it" is a surefire, easy way to deal with it. Doesn't really change the fact that the mod is kinda idiotic from a design perspective. Don't click it if your build can't handle it, it's not that hard to resist the temptation of greed or not reading the downsides. Just take it slow and easy.
It's not like your characters head immediately explodes as soon as you click the altar and crash your resistance down. You still get to clear the map just fine after all. Flames and madness. I'm so glad I didn't miss the fun. Last edited by Pashid#4643 on Jun 9, 2023, 5:31:51 AM

" Well...the BASIC mod is nearly half that so its really only -50ish, but specifically specced to be doubled. That's like saying "Why are uber bosses so hard, when most builds can't handle them" It is incredibly common for builds to have one or even two resists overcapped by well over 70+. Even if that's just while a flask is active. It is really only the super min/maxed builds that DON'T have extreme overcapped resists because they are streamlined and have perfect gear in every slot. But when you don't have perfect gear, you can easily accidentally have +80% fire resist. Furthermore, if you are doing those altars, you KNOW to overcap your fire resistance and get immunity to burning ground...its just like any other aspect of the game. If you are choosing to interact with it, know what you need to overcome it. It's the same as choosing to run or NOT run reflect maps. Frankly, it's so punishing because its an incredibly easy obstacle to overcome. One of the easiest in the game (unbuffed). Sure, buffing the downside makes it a little harder, but still. The MUCH HARDER mod is when it adds #% of physical damage as extra chaos damage, or "take chaos damage while you have an active flask". THOSE mods, even with fully capped chaos resistance, are a huge pain in the ass. Last edited by jsuslak313#7615 on Jun 9, 2023, 8:00:24 AM

" Here's a list of generic build defense types that can handle this modifier: - Purity of Fire builds with aura effect - Flaskfinders - Incandescent Heart / Fourth Vow + damage conversion (preferably on champion for fortify) - Juggernaut / Transcendence None of these setups are limited to a single skill. You can use them for traps, minions, bows, selfcast, totems or melee and you'll be fine. |

Options like this signal players to Uninstall. Might be why 60%ish of the league playerbase stops playing after 1 week.
It only gets worse for GGG if you expand the time out. But hey it saves on servers. Other games don't have these large dropouts but they also don't have as much hatred for players. Last edited by roundishcap#0649 on Jun 9, 2023, 9:39:04 AM

" Reality check, the sort of players who would rage uninstall because of something meaningless like this don't even reach eldritch farming in week 1. Most people quit week one cause they try out the new league mechanic during the campaign or white maps and decide to leave because of either the league mechanic being boring for them or the patch changes. Flames and madness. I'm so glad I didn't miss the fun.

" And you didn't even mention that many skills can build enough damage to 1-shot monsters before -resist even becomes a downside. Also some % of players will accept that their build can't handle it, click it anyway, and happily or begrudgingly trade 2-3 deaths for a little extra loot. OP you say your build can handle this so I'm not sure what's motivating you to make this post. You built a character strong enough to handle modifiers that others can't, so you get to reap the rewards. That is the generally idealized incentive structure of the endgame. |

Somewhat off-topic, but I have to ask since it's now come up:
Are there seriously people who genuinely do not understand the difference between active players and concurrent players? Because it honestly seems like there are people in this thread who don't know the difference. |
