Silverbranch, is this how GGG will "nerf" items?

Why are the retroactively buffing an unique item and not doing the same nerf wise? This frightens me.... I have to get a Koam's ASAP so that I have a 1000 health one.

This patch will probably be deployed on Monday, NZ time (which is Sunday for America).

Balance:
  • The Voll's Protector unique item has been changed so that it grants a power charge per target critically struck. This does affect items generated in previous patches.
  • The Silverbranch unique item has been changed so that it only grants +1 to bow skills. Old ones will not change unless you use a Divine Orb on them.

Kinda wish they just straight up nerfed all of them, although everyone knows how people would complain about that if they're the ones who own it.

As an aside, take for example in D3 the Demon Hunter set that was bugged and gave a set bonus roughly 5x (iirc) what it was supposed to and they never fixed it in fear of pissing people off, even though it was only wrong for like half a week before they realized it. For them it was a simple business decision at the end of the day, rather than a "what is technically best for the game".

That being said, maybe GGG will only do this for silverbranch, since i think the only real problem with silverbranch is the way it skews races when it drops. Maybe if they ever nerf say, lionseyes they'll apply it to everything, who knows.

Awesome, that means the few silverbranches I do have might be worth some dough ;)

I know they only did it for races but, it really scares me for future. I have to get my hands on all the great uniques before they turn to dust.
Eh, this is fine. Just think of it as .08 to .09 in d2, except in micro stages. When people want a 10.4 lionseye after they nerf it 20 patches from now, itll be like having a .08 windforce!

Ya, it isn't the best precedent. I'd really hope that if in the future they think an item is too strong and its harming the game then they'll just nerf all of them or even remove it.

This is the great thing about ARPG's that have ladder seasons is that you can make big earth shattering moves at the season changes. However, GGG won't have ladder seasons so my guess is that GGG will treat race seasons this way and default // regular HC might end up being a dumping ground that has lots of "legacy" items. Either that or they'll just not change items much.

Legacy items were never a good idea! They never will be. I don't know why GGG has the same mindset as developers did 10+ years ago.

While the "legacy item" thing might not be a good idea, I don't see what's wrong with making games like the classics I played 10+ years ago. In fact, the indie scene is full of evidence that suggests that a lot of people really really want to see more retro style games. I'm one of those people. I think the glory days of video game are behind us, and I absolutely love when developers try to bring back a lot of the things that made me get into video gaming in the first place.

As for nerfing uniques, I wouldn't worry too much about them nerfing a ton of them across the board. They are likely to only touch the ones that are really gamebreaking and I don't know if you realize, but 1 of those uniques was buffed, not nerfed.

Kinda funny that you're freaking out about nerfing when it's actually 1 item nerfed, and 1 item buffed. Seems kinda silly.

I'm scared of the future. What if they nerf Searing Touches? I use that in my build. I'm just worried about the future. My endgame build will be a searing touch/koams. I don't have a koams yet, but if you think they will nerf "gamebreaking" uniques, koams is up there. I now have to rush to get a koams before they nerf it, when they are already worth 30+ exalts!
They also changed voll's to give power charges on each target hit rather than the critical roll itself, which makes me wonder why they did not adjust Termanus Est to do the same D:
And if you close your eyes, does it feel like your exalt almost hit this time~
