How do I start making my own builds without messing up?

I usually follow guides when making characters but I want to change that. I want to be able to make my own builds. How do I make a build ready for end game maps? What are some things to consider for build planning? Any help will greatly be appreciated.
lots of HP but the best way is just trial and error.
as much HP as you possibly can

Download the offline skill tree and just become very familiar with the passive tree. If you get an idea for a build start planning it out on the passive tree and just tweak it till you think its good. After that, post it on the forums or something to get feedback.

you are consistent with posting bullshit

- you need to decide what you want to play es armor eva ect
- you pick a skill you like and build around it thats the whole secret

for example
fireball-concentrated effect-elemental profillerarion-chance to ignite-colddmg
goal is it to have some crit to trigger freeze so everthing on the screen gets frozen and burns at the same time

after you done that you play around with the offline skilltree to check which one of the classes uses the least passive points to reach some keynodes and which points benefit your skill like critchance/burnduration/damage/aoe ect

when you are finished you post your tree in the character section and ask for feedback

its a lot of fun and seperates you from all those copycat braindeads

If somebody tell you then it wouldn't be your own build.

But in general look for common trends in the published successfull builds.

Life%
Elem Effects
Ranged or Melee (lol)
Resistances

Read up on game mechanics, figure out which skills / passives / items synergize.
Decide if you want it to be the kind of build that relies on a unique or not.
Start planning out some keystones you want to get, and ensure you cover your bases of survivability, resource regeneration, resists, etc.

Don't be afraid to mess up - could reach Merc, realize your build is starting to suck - figure out whats wrong, and start over - or respec to correct the mistake if possible.
