I would rather call this an Archmage template. It works with all kinds of spells. Fireball, magma orb, ice spear, volatile dead, cremation, flame surge, etc. Swap the spell in and tune the support gems, then you can just crush the game.

Pros and Cons
Pros:
-Amazing clear speed. One cast and the whole screen is clean.
-Awsome single DPS.
-High survivability. 3.6k life with 50% MOM plus 4.5k ES and arcane cloak absorption. Also, it has plenty of block chance.
-No worry about elemental alignments!
-High sustainability with life leech, ES leech, and huge mana regen.
-Smooth to gear up and not so expensive to reach a very strong level. Although the final min-max would be $$$.
-Be able to use any spell you want!
-Not being a meta slave.


Cons:
-Long lockdown time due to great spell echo and spell echo. Need to invest some cast speed
-No stun-immunity until you got Skyforth.
-Use many unique gears, so resistance becomes an issue.
-Can't do ele-reflect or no regen map.

Mechanism Explanation

Ball Lightning

The damage of ball lightning depends on two factors: the hit damage of the spell and the number of hits when the ball flyby the enemies. The hit damage can be scaled by spell damage, projectile damage, and lightning damage. The number of hits is mainly determined by the area of effect and projectile speed. A target cannot be hit more than once within 150 ms, so it cannot be used to "shotgun" the target by hitting them with multiple projectiles at once. Besides, the lightning ball has a maximum duration of 3 seconds so the maximum hits one ball can make are 20.
For balls with normal projectile speed (48 unites/s):
AoE Radius (low limit) Max Hits

When using Lvl 20 Slower Projectile, projectile speed becomes 24 units/s. Then these hits numbers are doubled, with a maximum of 20.
Real DPS = tooltip * hits
In a word, Hierophant and Pledge of Hands match Ball Lighting very well as they both provide huge AoE bonus, which greatly increases the max dps of ball lightning.

Tips:
When mapping: keep your pointer closer to you to spray out balls, as balls from the same cast do not hit the same target.

When bossing: do not stand too close to the target. The best distance would be the radius of your BL AoE. For Uber Elder fight, do not use slower projectile as shper and elder keep teleporting.



Archmage

Archmage really opens a brand new way to scale damage: mana. With an extra 150% multiplier from great spell echo and three fevered mind, each cast would cost 40% of mana which means tons of added lightning damage. This will just override any other added damage sources like gem level, added lightning damage gem, or damage from gears. And it also provides a stable damage range.


Glorious Vanity

Glorious Vanity adds mods or replaces all minor and notable nodes in radius randomly, and the name of Doryani would transform Keystone passives into 'Corrupted Soul', which causes 50% Non-Chaos damage taken to bypass Energy shield and grants 20% of Maximum Life as Extra Maximum Energy Shield. This is actually very nice for sustaining as we can start both life and ES leech once we take any damage, rather than wait till ES runs out. And it provides extra 600-700 ES. If you use Glorious Vanity, just give up all passives other than passway points unless you would like to burn tons of divines to get the perfect one.

More mana, life and ES. And it is not so expensive. A rare one with mana, life, and resistance can also work. For enchantment, I would recommend projectile weakness effect or ball lightning damage. +1 ball does not really boost damage since ball lightning cannot shotgun.



Luxury Gear

+1 curse. With lvl5+ awakened curse on hit we can run projectile weakness + conductivity + elemental weakness/enfeeble.

Watcher's eye with mana recovery and lightning penatration.

Yes, my first Headhunter ever! Need to use with a resistance helmet. A crusader base could be very nice as it has %increased mana mod.

The perfect one should also have -9% lightning res mod.

Very Strong damage boost for crit version. Remember to use Zealotry and coresponding watcher's eye with it.

For Sirus, I would recommend replacing lightning pen with faster casting to reduce lockdown time.

Body armor
Storm brand--Curse on hit--Chain--Projectile weakness--increased AOE/elemental weakness(if use whisper of doom)--increased duration/conductivity(if using lvl5 WOK curse on hit )
I tried many skills to apply curse and I think storm band works best. Projectile weakness is the best curse for BL as it provides "take increased damage" buff, and knock back is very sweet combining with BL's high hit rate. Change Chain to Enhence for max DPS.
For crit based, change Conductivity to Assasin's Mark.

CWDT--Wave of conviction--Arcane Cloak--Vaal cold snap
Lighting exposure, defense and frenzy charge generation, all in one setup. Use vaal cold snap so you can self cast it when needed.

Flame dash--Arcane surge--Archmage--Increased duration
QoL arcane surge and movement setup.

Clarity (lvl 1)--Brand recall--Second wind--Enduring cry
Clarity is just for watcher's eye, cause 33 base mana regen on lvl 20 is nothing comparing to what we have (4.35%), while reserving more mana would reduce our DPS. Feel free to pick other utility gems such as vaal RF, portal, etc.



Awakened gems priority

1. Awakened curse on hit. One more curse on level 5 and curse on hexproof enemies. Biggest DPS boost.
2. Awakened controlled destruction. 0.5% cast speed per quality is very nice.
3. Awakened lightning penetration. Not the highest DPS boost, but it is cheap.
4. Awakened elemental focus. I would replace lightning pen with this in a later stage as our damage is so high for normal mobs so shock doesn't matter anymore.
5. Awakened spell echo. It is nice, but just way too expensive now.
6. Awakened GMP. 1% cast speed per quality is nice, but one more projectile doesn't mean lot to BL. And it is expensive.
7. Awakened chain for storm brand. Go for it if you have too many exalts.

Cluster jewel

I spend a lot of points in cluster jewels. Some of the best nodes are listed here:

Large lightning damage cluster jewels:
Disorienting Display Blind nearby enemies, great defense boost, highly recommended. This is a suffix node.

Storm drinker Lightning penetration and ES leech, a must-have as we don't have other ES leech source. This is a prefix node.

Scintillating Idea Mana and lightning penetration. Best damage boost in the lightning cluster. This is a prefix node. You can also have it on small mana clusters.

Vengeful Commander Nice damage boost. This is a prefix node.

So if you use only one large cluster, I recommend to use Disorienting Display + Storm drinker + Scintillating Idea. If you use two, just combine these nodes. but remember, one jewel can only have 2 prefixes!

Other utility nodes:
Liquid Inspiration in medium flask duration cluster. Mana and mana recovery rate in mana flask duration. Very nice to have.

Master of Fear and Wish for Death in medium curse cluster. Unnerved and culling strike on cursed enemies. Very nice damage boost.

Openness in small mana cluster.

I still choose Sanctuary of Thought even though it has 50% less mana cost modifier. 150% cost multiplier from great spell echo kind of neutralize this downside, and it still provides tons of AoE and ES.

I personally leveled this build with arc. Any lightning spells can work with archmage, and many uniques have low level-requirements. So leveling this build is very smooth.

i have a question about your CURRENT Profile and the POB you put in. The Gems in the Helmet are different than the ones in the POB. Which Gem Choice is the better one?

Same for the Boot Gems - in your current Profile you have different ones than in the POB.

I hope you can clarify that.

EDIT: Even your Body Armour is different. If i look in the Gear Section you have a 6 Link in there, but in your Current Gear Setup you have a 5 Link and a extra Socket.

For CWDT setup I swap in Vaal cold snap for frenzy charge generation. For gems in boots, it's mainly QoL and personal preference. Actually Vaal RF is not that useful.....

What would you prefer?

EDIT: The only thing i dont really use is Vaal Cold Snap, i never need it haha - but i guess the normal Cold Snap gets triggered by the CWDT.

Skyforth is not so essential if you use brine king + avoid stun Cinderswallow Urn + avoid stun boot enchant. I would say go with awakened gems (or +1 curse Atziri's foible)first.
hw to get so much energy shield? i only have 1.5 k energy shield and i use same armour as showed expect boots
