Ancestral Bonds and power siphon

If i take the ancestral bonds keynote, and i use power siphon myself (not on a totem), will I still gain power charges?

I know I can't do any damage to anything with my own spells, but will the effect still count (like if my totem kills the target after I have hit it with power siphon)?

Yes, you can still get Power Charges that way.
The Culling Strike effect will also still work.

You CAN do damage with power siphon. Read the skill description :) Power Siphon is labeled an ATTACK not a SPELL. You don't do damage with spells, however since Power Siphon is an ATTACK you do full damage. :) Hope this helped

PS: Power siphon is also a projectile so it is effected by all projectile modifiers, also works with point blank range because of the ATTACK labeling. I have a HardCore Power Siphon and LMP soon to be GMP with faster projectiles and crit chance and crit multipliers. Works great :D

The Ancestral Bond keystone passive skill gives the following effects:
You can summon up to 1 additional totem
You can't deal damage with your skills yourself

Power Siphon is a skill regardless. ncestral Bond doesn't even let you deal damage with your default attack IIRC

Correct. The default attack is a skill too.

Power Siphon will do no damage. It will still hit things, and still has culling strike (kill things if on 10% or lower life after being hit), so it can still kill things and thus grant you power charges.

As it happens, this is the plan for my current templar build.

From what I understand of the mechanics, when you put down a totem it is effected by your current stats, for example if you went RF+pain attunement+7 stack of power chargse and put down a totem, then unreserved the health, turned off RF with a dousing potion, and power charges evaporate, that totem would have ridiculous dps?

The totem is always affected by your current stats.
It is casting your spells for you.

Sorry i went based on what he said instead of re looking up the keystone :P spells - skills, huge diffrence, The latter is more generalized.
It's cool. Just didn't want false information to start percolating through the playerbase.

That happened on a game I played one time. Took months before people realized they'd ruined their builds lol.

Can anyone tell me if detonate dead works with ancestral bonds keystone? Seems like it should since its the corpse dealing the damage.

Edit: found a thread where someone says it will not do damage but does not explain why. can someone elaborate? it should work like traps and mines where as its your skill but its another source dealing the damage.
