Physical damage taken as Chaos or Fire Calculation
Several unique items convert some of the physical damage taken into another form of damage. (A bow into chaos and an armor into fire off of the top of my head.)
If anyone could explain to me how the math for this is done it would be appreciated. When the hit lands does it do the physical reduction prior to separating the damage, or after the damage is separated? Given the way that physical damage scaling works I'm hoping to dramatically reduce incoming physical damage prior to the armor calculation. Thanks for reading and I am sorry that I was unable to find my answers elsewhere. |

item 1: 20% damage taken, is taken as fire
You: 75% resists Them: 100% damage 75% of 20 = 15% damage nullified Therefore by using items such as flame cloak, you effectively multiply your health by 1.15 Its a very underrated item, and that's not even taking into account the extra few % you can gain from ele adaptation and purity and flaks and whatever else raises the resist cap The funny thing is, it works better at endgame, where you have the gear to back it up. For example if you have 3k health and 200% increased health from nodes, without a chest. Try finding an item that gives you 115% extra health. Flame cloak will give you 450 health at 3k life. An 80 health chest will give you 240. Of course an items like kaoms will be better, but not everyone has access to that Last edited by Catacrom#3132 on Mar 19, 2013, 7:52:55 PM

You see how im thinking and its a bit my fault for the way I typed things, let me try to be more clear about my question.
say a physical hit is coming in for 100 damage. 20% of this is converted into fire damage. I'm not concerened about that fire damage, instead im wondering if my armor rating will be applied as if i were taking 100 damage or 80 damage. I want to mitigate large physical hits better with a lower armor rating by converting a large portion of the physical damage to other sources so that my armor is more effective. Can anyone clarify this for me? Thanks :) |

What OP is asking is... Say you Heavy strike something with 20% of it being converted into Fire Damage.
You hit for 100 physical damage, 20 of that will be fire damage and 80 physical damage. What OP wants to know is that is it fully physical until armour kicks in (say 25% physical damage reduction) thus making it 60 Physical damage and 15 fire damage. ...OR is it calculated after.... Making it 60 Physical damage and 20 Fire damage. I hope this helped you trying to explain, OP. |

" As if you were taking 80. The other 20 got converted away. |
