"No Dead Babies" Option, Please

Anyone else agree that the opening area now needs an option to change the background music to Alice Cooper's "Dead Babies" song?

I, too, have had a kid -- in my case a 9 year-old boy -- tell me that the blood & gore was just gross. He also asked why anyone would want that in a game?

I couldn't tell him why because I have absolutely no idea, personally. But I don't get the appeal of slasher horror movies, either, so go figure.

OK, so, we can argue about whether including a blood & gore pref level is worth the time.

But the gratuitous dead baby on the starter beach? Seriously?

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give us parents the option of not seeing what is the single most upsetting image we can possibly see.

Dead babies == not fun.

Thanks.

Game is labeled as Dark Fantasy which already tells you that you can expect some nasty things. Has been in TV/Movies games since years and its not going to change.

If theres soemthing i find disturbing i dont watch it rather than calling in TV station to blur out gross stuff for me.

In the menu on the left theres a section "About" i quote from there -
" Path of Exile immerses the player in a gritty and realistic art style that goes against the current industry trend of cartoony RPGs.
Our combat is especially visceral, with plenty of blood and gore. " -
I know a lot of people dont ever read that but the section is there for a reason so probably you shouldve read that before allowing kid to watch.

Im not sure if the intent of your post is to understand those who enjoy the gore or is it just to drop off your reponsibility on developers for failing to explain why people enjoy diffrent things.

Im sorry if this might sound a bit harsh but i dont see an invitation to discussion here but rather desperate attempt to find supporters for changes youre proposing.

Sigh im pretty sure a lot of people didnt even notice that corpse until now.

To be honest, when I noticed that doll lying on the beach, my first thought was: "Huh. Dead Baby or Doll? Well, since a even a doll would imply a small child was around somewhere what with all the shipwrecks... nice touch to that grimdark atmosphere, even if only implied!"

You asked what the purpose of showing that baby/doll (I think it's a doll, but the implications are similar) is? It's to show the player that Wraeclast really is a place that's not playing around. It's deadly. Anyone can (and will) die.
Personally, I like that. It's a common trope in Western society that we want to protect our offspring (most films/VG don't feature children coming to harm in ANY way. If they do it means that This Was Bad), and such imagery invariably leads to our feeling horrified. Which is exactly why it's in there.

And, as someone else has so aptly said: You are the caretaker of your child, take care of it.
As part-time teacher this is something that really bugs me about some parents: They don't take care of their children as they think they should, but expect others to do it for them. If you don't want your offspring to see that doll, don't play PoE when he's around.
I for one like the uncompromising stance GGG takes with PoE, and to be honest, they are still far tamer than the original Diablo: People ripped in half, staked, crucified on burning crosses, mutilated, bled out... a child sacrificed on an altar, heart ripped out. And that's just a quick overview.
It made you really feel that vibe of "There's REAL Evil about, it doesn't muck around".

edit: You can do a quick google for "Diablo+Butcher's Lair" to see what I'm talking about when you don't know Diablo.

Not a game for 9 year old children. End of story.

You don't write on horror movie forums asking the directors to cut down the gore level so your kid can watch, why should you for this?

Games sometimes give gore options, but thats entirely up to the developer, if they want to do it they can do it, if not then they wont, deal with it yourself.
I like dark RPGs because they're gruesome. They should terrify you and turn your stomach. If the content of a dark RPG doesn't do that then it's just an RPG.

However, I don't really see any harm in providing players with the option to tone it down a little (if it doesn't take too much time away from the developers). Providing that someone else's options/preferences doesn't affect my gameplay and my options/preferences.

All it could do is increase the player base. I don't see any damage done there.

I think that's the biggest obstacle (and it's why I spoke against it in the first place): GGG is a very small team (about 20 people, I think?). Practically anything "optionable" takes away precious time and money from other things. Thing, in my mind, that are more important.

Particularly when the "dark and gritty" is one of the major selling points of the game. Part of PoE's very appeal is to "be dark and disturbing". An option to dilute that appeal (while understandable) should be far down the list of "things to do".

Ever stop to think that this game is not for you, or a 9 year old?

So is this what we've come to now a days, a game has to be made to cater to everyone? Why? Maybe you should go play something else?

Dead kids give lots of fun! You can kick them around and/or play basketball with them!

Have you thought about letting him play basically any other game? Poe is unique in that it actually isn't afraid to add fun stuff like that (like other things in the market...)!

Sorry OP...

+1 for dead babies!

It is elements like this that drew me to this game over the watered down D3.
