New Support Gem: Cast on Hit
"When you get hit" support - i.e. 5% Chance to Cast Ice Nova when Struck.
"When you hit" support - i.e. 5% Chance to Cast Spark on Attach. Any plans for this? Would only work for some skills - those skills would need a new "On Hit" tag. Spark, any nova, other skills that spread out from the character. Curses. Obviously not auras. Other ideas: Increase in % to cast by gem level and quality. Support gem would have to be at level of skill gem it's attached to in order to work. Cap at about 20%. Suggestion Thread: Race of the Day

That would be cool, i am pretty sure we will see unique's that do this eventually but the only problem I see is that you would need to take up another linked socket for it, and unless you have high elemental damage which some melee do happen to have its completely useless for a physical dmg melee to do this, then we have ranged attack people. They would just end up enlarging the gap between ranged attack users and melee even more, and probably displacing the need for casters completely. On taking a hit sounds great tho, but again could be taken way too advantage of by ranged glass cannons. Think about putting your gem+ice nova+flee+blind .... would severely lessen the threshold of defense needed for a lot of things.

From a melee perspective linked to nova, with knockback, flee and/or blind would be very useful.

" Good points. This obviously needs some work, but I think it would be worth it. As an old D2 fan, I would love to see this on equipment. Excited for that. I'd even be open to seeing it roll as a magic prefix or suffix in addition to on uniques. I think this could - and should - be designed more to benefit melee characters than ranged. When taking a hit, if the % to cast is low enough, it won't have to overly benefit glass cannons. If you need to take 10+ strikes to trigger, then that problem likely solves itself. But then it might not be worth a gem slot for anyone so that's a tough balance to work out. Ranged don't prefer to be in on the action, so I doubt they would use it much, but it would make a good last line of defense if you're lucky enough to survive long enough. Some skills, like teleport, probably shouldn't be supported with this gem. I'm not as excited for cast on strike, but I saw it on another post and wanted to add it to the discussion. I would be fine without it honestly. IMO, this should primarily benefit melee as well. I think limiting skills available to those that emanate from a player will help. If your bow attack lands and you have ice nova, it's not cast at the monster, but at the player. Same for spark and arc. Curses would need to trigger at the character as well. Could also limit the weapons it triggers with to melee, but that's probably more complicated for GGG. I hadn't thought of the lack of benefit to a physical melee. The advantage there would likely be on triggering curses or other supports like blind. I think this could get matched with Vulnerability a lot. Suggestion Thread: Race of the Day

i like this idea, but it would be more fun if the version that triggers when you strike didn't rely on rng. i would personally run ice shot with temporal chains
