There seem to still be some thing wrong with this guy.

When defeated in an open map zone, he can still be attacked by minion AI and sometimes will even try to follow you without animating or actually doing anything.

Inside a Research area, upon completion he often does not have the 'Release' option available, forcing you to backtrack out to the entrance.
