Installer error
So just when the installer is about to finish setting up, I get the following error: "There is a problem with this Windows installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expect. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."
I've tried setting up the compatibility different like people have recommended in other threads, but it hasn't solved anything. For the record, I'm on an MSI laptop running W7 64bit. I'd really like to solve this issue, since I'm not part of the closed beta and I'd really like to play in a few hours from now :/. Last edited by Henry_GGG on Aug 24, 2013, 6:58:34 AM

Maybe make sure windows is updated. Or uninstall re download and install again? Turn off some background programs that might be interfering. Hope you get it working.

One of the GGG employees should be able to help you, but I will make a guess anyway.
I think that one of the dependancies is failing to install on your computer but I dont know why. You could try to manually install them. Make sure that you have an up to date version of DirectX. You also need Visual C++ Runtime and finally OpenAL. These can all be downloaded. http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=35 http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=14632 http://connect.creativelabs.com/openal/Downloads/Forms/AllItems.aspx |

There may be someone who has a better answer for you. I guess it could be something missing on your system.
In the mean time. I have found that I have had corrupted downloads before on random websites and that your browser can still cache the bad version. It is a bit of a shot in the dark but maybe try downloading it with a different browser. Or completely clearing your cache before re-trying. I'm also moving this to bug reports. " Please be more specific than "still nothing". You tried installing the above 3 redist packages? Did they give errors? Or they succeeded and then the PoE installer still gave errors? Also, after the installer exits, are there any files in the install location? Or is the install dir empty/missing? | |
I am having the same problem.
Logged into PoE website. Downloading client for the open beta weekend. Try to install it, it runs up to right after you choose a directory and it starts the installation process, crash with the exact message the OP put. I've tried several installation directories, including ones that do not require administrator priviledges, same error. Restarted pc, no extra programs running, tried it again, same thing. Redownloaded client, same thing. Before anyone suggests this, it auto prompts run as admin. Hope there's a fix because I would like to participate in the stress test. <edit> i am running windows 7 64bit Last edited by TakingOutTrash#2170 on Mar 30, 2012, 6:09:23 PM

Can you check event viewer? ...
Hold down the Windows key and press R. Type: eventvwr Go to Windows Logs > Application Look for any errors shown at the time you were installing PoE and post the error codes. |
