Encrusted fossils only spawn behind walls now (not in patch notes)

This was not in the 3.4.3d/e patch notes which nerfed fossil spawns.

They are absurdly rare for an item which, most of the time, doesn't add a white socket or link or anything.
When they were only worth 3c, it still wasn't worth trying to 6L with them from what I gathered. It was barely worthwhile trying to get white sockets with them. Now they're so rare that they're 15c.
