10 things i wish knew before i started (bignner guide)

a little background on me and how I got started. I played Diablo 3 for more than 300 hours when I got bored due to the casual nature of Diablo 3. And the lack of variety of the builds. so I start trying POE out never got into it before January of this year and have in that time played more than 450 hours and I thought why not talk about what I wish I knew when I started.
0. classes the only driffences in when it comes to classes is where you want to start in the skill tree. 1. follow a build guide at first so when I first start I just tried a lot of different things making my own builds. I never made one good build that I could get to endgame. So then I tried a few different builds and never got the hang of any of them so I tried a build guide and failed. And then I tried another one and it works better then I could have hoped for letting me get to the endgame/tier 10 maps. The build I used was a summoner. I will link a few builds I could recommend the summoner https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1971382 this is a cyclone build I would recommend this for players who just converted from Diablo. https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1819239 those are my favorite builds I have played. If you have any other builds you could recommend please put them down in the comments 2. remember defense stats. as I said in the first point I forgot elemental resistance in my first build and that meant I would easily get killed I could not even get it to endgame. due to the fact that I got 1 shot be everything that had elemental damage and it is good to remember you get a permanent debuff after act 5. Try to have a 75% elemental resistance at all times but you can do without that and I forgot it so I thought it was worth saying. 3. gems and skills. skills in path of exile workes differently from in other games. You won't find new attacks or moves in the skill tree. Instead you find them in gems that can be found through quests and random drops and the item. You will find will have some color slots. If it is blue then you can use a blue gem, if it is green then you can use a green gem, and if it is red then you will be able to use a red gem. And if it is white then you can have all colors in the slot so you will also see strings going in a certain order that is because you can use support skills support skills makes you main skill stronger or adds a new bouns. If this seems a little much it is okay you will understand it in due time. And the normal skill tree will a lot of the time only offer state boost but it has so unique upgrades. Aswell you will get skill point for leveling up and for some quest. You will also get point of regret that will reset the skill you chooses in the skill tree red = red green = green blue = blue white = all gem colors 4. orbs and currency i think it is worth knowing what item does what so here is a short list. Scroll of Wisdom you can use this item to identify a blue yellow or orange item. portal scroll this will make a portal back to town or the house you will get later in the game. Orb of Transmutation this upgrades an item from white to blue. Orb of Augmentation this item adds another state to a blue item. Orb of Alteration this randomizes the states of a blue item. Orb of Alchemy this upgrade a white item to a yellow item. orb of chance this upgrades an item to either blue yellow or orange. Silver Coin this is used to get a prophecy from an NPC unlocked through the story. Orb of Fusing this links gems slots in an item. Chromatic Orb this randomizes the color of the gem slots in an item. Jeweller's Orb this adds extra gem slots in an item. Glassblower's Bauble this upgrades a flask. Gemcutter's Prism this upgrades a skill gem. Vaal Orb this corrupts an item that means you can do anything more with the item and it randomizes all stats. Orb of Scouring this degrades an item from a blue, yellow or orange item to a white. Orb of Regret this adds a skill of regret. Regal Orb this upgrades an item from a blue to a yellow. Blessed Orb this randomizes the none random stat on an item. Divine Orb this will randomize the random states on an item. chaos orb this randomizes states on a yellow item. Exalted Orb this upgrades a blue item to a yellow. Cartographer's Chisel this upgrades a map. Journeyman Cartographer's Sextant this either adds or randomizes stats for a white or yellow map on the atlas. (you will unlock the atlas as a part of the endgame) Master Cartographer's Sextant this either adds or randomizes stats for any map on the atlas. Mirror of Kalandra this will copy an item but you cannot add anything to the item. (note I have never seen this item it is rare) 5. how quest works. so like many other MMOs there is quest in path of exile. But there is nearly only main quest and some side quest most of them gives you items. You can buy every mission item later or find it in a random drop the normal way to play the story seems is only go for the main story but I do everything. Normally the missions is just a go kill that bosses collect these items but. Is a good way for the game to go as most of the gameplay is about the build and the loot you are using and getting. So while completing the main story try to get the 75% elemental resistance and a good amount of health and damage so you are ready to the end game

6. trading. so compared to a lot of MMOs then path of exiles trading system is mainly based on third-party websites like http://poe.trade and https://poe.ninja. There is a trade chat but a lot of the items in the trade chat but they. Are way overpriced the main 2 form of currency are chaos and exalted orb. They are commonly referred to as c for chaos and ex for exalted orb. exalted orbs are worth 70 chaos orbs for the time of writing this. There is also programs you can download to help you find the prices of the items you find. Mainly poe trad Marco this will help you to get the price of the item you find. I would recommend only selling orange items in the start. because it can get pretty complicated. if you wanna begin selling you will have to set up shop in the poe forum. to do this i would recommend reading this wiki on it as i would not be able to explain it better then they can. https://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Poe.trade_tutorial 7. co-op. the way the coop works in path of exile is pretty simple you can go in to your friends list and press invite. The problem is there is shared loot that means that everything you and your friends find is shared so you freind can pickup the item you find and you can pick up the items they freind. to fix this you can go into the settings and in UI there is a thing called default loot allocation choose permanent allocation. That should help with the shared loot thing by making some items so that you can only pick it up I would recommend doing so as it helps both your friend and you. 8. lab. lab or labyrinth if you play like i used to do then you would see it and think I will wait for now and then when i am done with the main game then I'll do the labyrinth will this. is not the best way to do it I would recommend doing when it unlocks for you but. With some builds that can be hard especially if you have been unlucky. You will unlock the labyrinth normal when you have complete all labyrinth challenges they start at act 1 and you will find the last one in act 3 then you can unlock the labyrinth normal mode. There is 3 more you can unlock, the first time you play it on that charter you will unlock and Ascendancy class which is just a stronger version. Of the build you are playing usually the build guide you are following comes with an Ascendancy class to choose. 9. league. the current league is incursion league. A league is kinda like an event in another game where there will be new things to do and new ways to find loot when a league ends your charter will be transferred over to normal league. And then you cannot play that charter in the next league. The only difference between normal league and incursion league (or whatever name the next league has) is that you can only do the challenges on the incursion league (or the next league) and when it ends it will transfer your charter to the next league, 10. pvp. pvp is a thing in path of exile altho it is not the main part of the game. You will unlock the first arena in act 3. Also Incursion let you somehow change corrupted items although new player should read about it. " And cleans up all mods beside quality and implicit mod. " Haha. Nice one. It adds refund point. Skill of regret, haha. " This randomise implicit mod of an item. " Again adds quality. You can upgrade map to higher tier by selling 3 of the same kind and rarity to vendor. People might complain but they use poe.trade because they got used to it. |
