yes, sunder, and to a much lesser extent cleave.
its mostly physical based 1h axes that are in demand for these builds. |

Playing up one right now... AxeManSB. Bloodsplosion Bleed Gladiator. Wooking well for T10 maps and I haven't even "optimized" him yet. Heavy Strike on a 6L Belly, and a 4L Spectral Shield Throw. Using Jack, The Axe.

Not popular but i played a 1h sunder selfbuff-melee necro witch (Harbinger league) , using Spirit Offering to boost my effective hp.
I had like 9k hp in fight and went full physical damage. Not the fastest in the world but fun to some extent. Weapon i used was Soul Taker. Masterpiece of 3.16 lore "A mysterious figure appears out of nowhere, trying to escape from something you can't see. Sunder is the most common use of 1h axes. It's probably the third most popular 1h melee weapon type, behind foils and claws.
