Shift Spamming Fusing and Jewellers

So i have a question about using the Shift Spamming mechanic for 6 linking an item, so you can shift spam jewellers on an item and it will stop once the item has the maximum amount of sockets it can obtain, however my friends recently said that when you shift spam the fusing on a head piece the links wont stop when the item is fully linked. Does this apply as well for 6L chest pieces? Do i have to check between every use of a Fusing orb?

An Orb of Fusing cannot be applied to a fully linked item with 5 or 6 sockets.
