A thought strikes me - white/black for background/text is inverse?

It's funny that we have always white background then dark latters. From my experience it is more straining to read that way.

In fact i think it is best the other way around with dark background and light text, that really makes the bright(what we need to see) stand out from the darker background so that we properly focus.

The old system seems just be standard and at least for many years most have just followed it. But i think it could be just a leftover from earlier days, hundreds of years ago when it made more sense to sparingly use ink to write just letters.

Nowadays where we don't have to consider conservation of colors on computer, have white ink so to speak etc, it seems to me that the actual superior way isn't white background/black letters. It is just a leftover from more ancient times.
