Kroughfire's Ice Crash Raider (perma-freeze T15 bosses) All content. HC viable

Kroughfire’s Ice Crash Raider

(freeze stuff, 1 million+ Shaper Dps with good-but-not-great gear, etc, etc)

Quick demo of boss kill and shitty mapping (my commands lag during recording, so ignore my awkward movement and lack of whirling blades).

This is the second build I've been playing in SC Abyss, and it's the most effective character I've ever played. All game content is fine, and all possible bosses perma-frozen (T15's force phase though except Carcass boss). I would recommend trying out this build if you want to play a non-meta but still crazy build that's affordable to start, but you can invest however much you want in it to push the limits. It also has very strong defenses, so it HC viable and levels quickly because it never dies.

P.S. Shaper/Elder items are OP for this build (and in general)
P.P.S. Please don't message me in game, as I will be checking the forum thread. Thanks :)

Premise

This build doesn’t use any special gimmicks or combinations. Rather, it takes advantage of the new shaper/elder items and the fact that Ice crash (like sunder) only uses main hand weapons to attack. This means that you can use a stat stick in your left hand to provide massive dps bonuses to your character. This build is softcore but hardcore viable. I give a HC version of the tree, but when I’m giving any stats or itemization, it’s for my current SCAbyss build (still doable HC, but I like to be SUPER safe)

Pros

-Can do all game content (Shaper, Atziri, etc.)
-Freeze T15 bosses (also Atziri split phases and Izaro)
-Flexible build pathing for Hardcore and budget
-Good clear with very strong single target
-Good defense layering (Block, Evasion/Armor, 6.5k+ life, Freeze, Taste of Hate, Arctic Armor, etc)
-No required uniques (though a pair of 1c tombfists are best in slot for gloves).

Cons

-Melee playstyle
-No ele reflect or cannot leech maps
-Cost goes up a lot while trying to optimize gear.
-Animation from Ice Crash makes it hard to too see the ground

Notes:
The tree is fairly flexible, and depending on your gear and preferences you can choose to go Vaal Pact (it annoys me in lab and some other fights) and Acro (you lose some armor and block, which you naturally get from Lion’s Roar and your dual wield node pathing through ranger and duelist areas. Calculated, Acro gives 30% dodge, but 10% reduced block, and halves your armor. Since I’m not dependent on dodge anyway, I opt for more efficient armor).

Hardcore players can drop the north side of the ranger sword wheel and some other selected damage nodes (taking the dex under the shadow life nodes instead of pathing through the phys damage, for instance) to travel to Marauder start for lots of juicy life nodes and better armor.

Offenses

With a 70c sword and 120c stat stick, I get over 1 million Shaper dps on PoB. Here is the breakdown of important notes.
The build is based on physical damage, so scaling that through a high pdps sword is most important. After that, you want high crit chance and crit multi and a good %phys gained as cold stat stick (The Princess unique sword can be used as one while leveling).
Having flat added critical strike chance from an Elder chest adds a huge amount of offense to your build.

COLD:
-Ice Crash and Ranger phys to cold convert 90% of damage to cold.

-Hatred gives 36% phys added as cold

-Lab enchant is cheap and gives 15% of phys ADDED as cold damage (one of the best enchants)

-Stat Stick gives 40% phys damage as cold (and more if you can afford it. Mine gives around 35% added as lightning as well).

-Shaper Amulets can give up to 20% phys added as cold, and are fairly cheap for how powerful they are (I had a hard time selling many with this mod for over 1ex, even when they had a T1 crit multi roll and crafted life also).

-Taste of Hate gives up to 20% phys added as cold
All of this equals about 220% damage as cold. Combined with Ice Crash’s huge base attack damage multiplier and the ruthless support, every 3rd attack is pretty much guaranteed to freeze every non-immune boss in the game

Defenses

This build relies primarily on having a large life pool (6500+) to tank hits, but has other mitigation also.

-Freeze: Freeze enables you to completely prevent taking damage from just about everything. Bosses up to T15 can be perma-frozen, and even with % extra life from map mods they can be frozen with the added damage during flask up-time. Abyss rares never get a chance to actually damage you either. As a note, Ruthless is the OP skill gem here that allows your attacks to overcome the huge freeze threshold for T15 bosses, so every third attack will freeze.

-Fortify, Block, Armor, Evasion, Dodge: All in moderate amounts, but together they add a fair amount of mitigation against hits that get through freeze. I get about 25% block, 40% evade, 35% armor, and some token dodge from ascendency and quartz flask (16% attack, 20% spell dodge). Fortify is on Whirling Blades, so is always up.

-Immunity to Ailments: One of the best ascendency benefits from Avatar of the Veil. Means you can’t be chilled, frozen, or shocked, and means that you can run more unique flasks (I use 4 since the only mod left that you need is bleed removal)

-Option to run Arctic Armor, Enfeeble Blasphemy, and/or Temp Chains.

-Being a raider with high attack speed means fast whirling blades for dodging boss attacks

-Phys Damage Taken as Elemental (money option) : Taste of Hate (2ex, if you can afford it but the first upgrade I’d get for your char aside from a 6L or 300+pdps sword) gives 20% phys damage taken as cold, so is effectively 16% less damage taken. You can also find this mod on an elder or shaper chest, up to 15% and it’s not too expensive (I had a 5L 10% fire and 110+ life chest sitting in my sale tab for a week for under an exult). Further, it is up to 12% on watcher’s eye while using Purity of the Elements, which I would recommend using in combination with a Hatred mod if you want to fully optimize. In this case, Purity would replace arctic armor or Blasphemy, and ease up gear requirements significantly because of the %all resist. With Purity Watcher’s Eye, Elder mod, and ToH (ideal situation), it’s up to 47% phys taken as ele damage (or around 37% phys reduction). This is obviously the big budget option.

Gear

General Rule: get life, phys as cold, and Crit Multi

High pdps and crit sword
Bought for 70c (and divined)
Stat Stick (cold is most important. Buy one with an open suffix to craft crit multi)
Bought for 120c
Elder Chest (hybrid base preferred)
Crafted. Base was 40c early in the league. Make sure it's at least ilvl 84 if you want to craft yourself. Just try to land crit chance and life. There is a debate about life recovery on kill, but personally I am a huge fan. Phys damage taken as fire is the other best mod you can have on your chest.

Helm Enchant

Can't remember the cost of this, but the ice crash enchant is considered almost worthless. I bought a starkonja's with the 15% mod for 15c before this one.

Amulet

Crafted myself. Could probably buy one with crafted life, crit multi, and phys added as cold for 1ex

Other gear
Gloves were 7c, Boots 15c, Belt 20c, Rings: self found and 1 ex.

Flasks (OP)
This build benefits from very OP flask combinations. I consider this set-up absolutely best in slot.

Jewels and Abyss Jewels
Preferred mods are:
Life -> Crit Multi -> Attack Speed (or flat phys) -> %Damage
I purchased mine for around 40c (and failed 2 out of 3 slams :) )

Other Notes

Map Mods: This build can't do ele reflect or cannot leech maps

Alternative Gems: Some fights I prefer not using conc effect (phoenix guardian specifically), and using crit multi as a swap in is not a bad idea for bosses with a lot of annoying adds, or ones you want to keep your distance from/kite.

Curse Situation: So Enfeeble is a very good defensive option because it adds a lot of effectiveness to your evasion rating on top of the reduced damage and crit chance. However, the Temp. Chains corruption on gloves frees up enough mana to run Arctic armor, which means you get a still-very-good curse (albeit you lose quality) AND 13% reduced damage taken while stationary (so while attacking). I think this is best so far, but if I was made of money, I'd get purity of elements and hatred watcher's Eye for crazy damage and % phys taken as ele. This would free up my gear to get better life and damage instead of %res, but would mean removing AA (though the effect of watcher's and AA are pretty much the same except watcher's is always "on")

Could freeze guardians with more investment?
In order to get rid of clearspeed meta cap global movement speed at 100% but make all skills instant so everything feels great.
I can chill guardians (if I'm remembering correctly; will check later tonight), but they are actually immune to freeze, as far as I'm aware

I threw together your build this morning, it looks fun, but mobs weren't freezing for me, can you check what did i miss? I haven't changed to raider yet, didn't have time to run the lab, just did one fast map to try it out (thats why i didn't take frenzy stuff on the tree)
Hey, glad you're trying it out.

Honestly, I'm not entirely sure, but have some suggestions and hints. There are some things in your tree that aren't the most efficient (you really want the crit notable up by shadow, crit multi on jewels, and Raider + frenzies add huge amounts of damage). also, you want to drop ice bite on your gem set up and get ruthless. This support gem is pretty much singlehandedly how I freeze lock bosses (it adds 113% MORE damage every 3rd attack, which is huge for freezing, and normally lasts long enough to attack three more times before the freeze wears off). It's not necessary, but I would also recommend picking up a diamond flask, since I'm guessing your chance to crit is rather low (how's your accuracy? I don't see any on gear). I get +1.5 crit from my chest, which you don't have, and you're not using a diamond flask either to compensate. Again, not necessary, but it helps a lot with consistency (since your sword isn't a foil). Rolling a crit on the ruthless hit is what you want to aim for.

Also, your amulet is lacking crit multi, which is very important, and you're not using a tombfist for intimidate (free 10% MORE damage multiplier). the gloves with highest life roll and near max attack speed cost only 1c. Socket in a searching eye jewel with phys damage, life, and crit multi.

Quick Question: What tier of maps are you running, and what mobs are you not freezing? Do you mean you're not freezing T15 bosses, cause your lack of multi and no ruthless would explain that. But you should still be freezing all other mobs.

Ok, i changed some stuff, got new amulet and changed to raider. It's still not perfect, but i need to get new jewels with crit multi. Also, main issue right now is capping resists. With setup like this im at 38/58/29, so i will have to drop either tombfists or starkonjas, but most likely gloves, since decent helm with 15% enchant is hard to find. Im still doing t10-12 maps, for reference
That should help a lot.
Again, check your accuracy, as you don't have any on gear as far as I can see. If your chance to hit is below 90%, it can make crits feel much less constant (85%+ is a must. 90%+ is a goal). Also, you don't need a quicksilver anymore since you can whirling blades, so take a diamond flask instead :)

Let me know how it goes.
Accuracy is at 88% with Ice Golem. I wanted to take diamond with bleed removal, but sellers were afk so i couldn't bother, it's on my list of things to do. Whats your opinion on Carcass Jack? It frees up the aoe gem slot, tho it is a bitch to roll 4red sockets, im still in process of coloring it
I dont understand why you are using blasphemy when you dont even run a curse?

what is frost bomb doing in weapon slot?

herald of ice and hatred and arctict armor should reserver all armor?

you type sth different in gear and in gem link description

Yeah, sorry, I haven't needed to use all my sockets, so I have a few different things. For Herald of Ice, I'm simply leveling it and will try again later (I wanted to link it with onslaught, but it doesn't work too well). so that socket is just for leveling purposes. Blasphemy is just leveling also.

Frost bomb is a good skill to run, as it reduced cold resistance by 20%. I use it on bosses and throw it out with my totem.
