Blizzard tells gamers to lower expectations for D3

I had a good laugh. For me, personally, that would take some doing. "'What is this thing, anyway?' said the Dean, inspecting the implement in his hands.
'It's called a shovel', said the Senior Wrangler. 'I've seen the gardeners use them. You stick the sharp end in the ground. Then it gets a bit technical.'" -Terry Pratchett, Reaper Man |

No need to ask me anymore. My expectations were already lowered recently after Blizzard added the Patch 13 to the D3 Beta and removed the ability to use a standard attack. Watching my monk carry around weapons in his hand that he couldn't even use was enough to make me go from the 'can't wait, must have now!' to the 'I'm a bit concearned, WTF were they thinking' level of expectations so Blizzard should be happy.

I think its alot of hype around D3, im sure it will be a great game, but cmon, can a game really be that perfect that millions of people just have to love/buy/support it?
Im sure the game will be fine, and either you like it or you dont. Havent watched much material about D3, so if its going to be realeased you want it or not ;) ill wait and then make my oppinion. | |
While i have no doubt that I will purchased D3, I personally thing that Torchlight 2 will be a far better game than D3, then there is my "new love" PoE which judging by my time in D3 beta is twice the game D3 is (for what we can access in D3).

Consol port = garbage.
Linear combat system = garbage WoW Anime Art Style = garbage microtransactions = garbage DRM = garbage Theres a trend.... Hmm, I don't think they could lower my expectations more than they have. Vivendi killed Blizzard and WoW destroyed the creativity of the staff and designers. Now you have a company that will siphon it's franchises until the last dime is squeezed out and the company folds. Before that they will nearly perfect making addictive games. I hope dent left behind will be filled with people who want to make fun games and not addictive fee based garbage. Blizzard was the last section of the Activision Vivendi Blizzard corporation I was willing to support but now they are committed to making great amounts of money from games and not great games that make money. Cheers GGG! I look forward to ranting about your sell out 20 years from now/. But, until that time keep making GAMES and I'll keep buying them. Death by lag in HC = the most widely told tale to hide the shame of a miscalculated/overzealous death by game :)

" Come on i knew Diablo 3 was overated the moment it was anounced, but come on at least give some critique that makes sense. The game is definatly no console port or standard console arpg. The art style is just a matter of taste and nowhere near WoW and just a disappointment for the people who wanted it to look like D2. And PoE will certainly have microtransactions and DRM(always online)and even when you argue that this is a f2p game and D2 will cost prob 60$ we are talking about value for your money and not the quality of the product. I probably wont buy D3 for 60$, but that does not mean it is a bad game. |

Did anyone else feel WoW should have been Diablo online... instead of fairy crap online? Just a really gritty brutal MMO instead of WoW? In the design process it was SUPPOSED to be A WARHAMMER game... so that fell through and they went with WARCRAFT... if they were smart DIABLO online would have been their FIRST VENTURE... NOT happy rainbows...
I love virtual brutality so save it for the Mobs...

I too never understood why they picked warcraft as franchise for the mmo that's now wow. Clearly the gameplay is closer to diablo's mechanics than warcraft's rts play. Maybe because it was easier to implement the different factions like humans, orks and elves. In diablo you dont have those typical races. dunno

D3 is nothing but an experimental money making scheme by raking the RMAH.
It's easy to see why everything is being streamlined, removed, and dumbed down. They want a simple game that is easy to balance and requires little maintenance so they can concentrate on item population and controlling the economy to encourage as many RMT's as possible. |

" Totally contradicts this thread. No company in there right mind is going to want you to lower your expectations no matter how high. Its being taking out of context from reading the Bashiok quote " Its not like he's being ultra serious. How good the game actually is will determine wether you would buy future games not how high your expectations were. Last edited by Kavlor#3571 on Feb 24, 2012, 11:11:12 PM
