Quick explanation: I'll add more details over the week.

The build functions by stacking critical strike chance on the inquisitor. Everytime we crit, we ignite. Everytime we ignite, we take damage. By taking damage, we automatically activate CWDT skills. Every instance of damage taken also detonates vaal molten shell.

Ignite
The most important items for the build are "The Rate Cage" and "Eye of innocence".
Eye of innocence deals 100 fire damage to every time you ignite an enemy. In order to ignite an enemy, you need to either crit, or have chance to ignite. Because the build is done on the inquisitor, it is quite favorable to aim for crit chance.

By using the Essence of Horror on a rare set of gloves, the socketed gems gain 3.5% BASE crit chance. Socketing blade vortex + firestorm along will provide the most ignites per second. Since they are also in the gloves supported by crit chance gem and cwdt, they have close to, if not 95% critical strike chance. That means that they will almost always ignite.

Power Charges and Crit chance
Obviously since the build is crit, it is a good idea to capitalize on power charges. A second cwdt setup using level 1 cwdt, ice spear, pcharge on crit, and ball lightning do just that. Within seconds, you will be at max power charges.

Additionally, Assassin's mark + blasphemy is used to get additional crit chance after the normal critical strike calculations.

High level spells
the cwdt level 1 setups do a decent amount of damage due to ignoring resists, however that is not enough. Using CWDT level 17+ and high level spells makes up for this, and will clear trash.

It is also important to use a channeling skill for when you have Vaal Molten Shell active, as this detonates it very frequently. I chose flame blast. When it crits, it does well over 150k. It is also linked with Arcane surge to provide a nice damage boost to all the other spells.

You can also use a essence of hysteria one hand weapon in place of oneof the razors. Hysteria provides a chance to proc flame burst on hit, and since we hit many times a second, it constantly activates and provides extra damage.

Vaal Molten Shell
This is the highest damage skill of the build. It will destroy bosses in less than a second, even with a 5L. In order for it to explode, you need to take PHYSICAL damage, which is why we use the Rat's Nest Armour.

It is also very important to stack increased duration from the skill tree and also using the gem so that it can be used to clear maps quickly.

Vaal molten shell either crits for the whole duration, or doesnt crit for the whole duration, so it is important to use a diamond flask before using this skill, especially for bosses. I mean, who wants to spend an additional 0.5 seconds fighting a boss?

End Game
make no mistake, this is a pure glass canon build. you will die. If you want to farm guardians, you will need to very high level. It is also advisable to carry more than one VMS depending on which guardian you are fighting. With the addition of the new shaper mods and watcher jewels, you can also get more LGOH with spells from a ring and also vitality aura.




Important Details:

Ideally you want between 40-50% fire resist. That being said, find your own comfort zone

Feel free to pick your own high level cwdt spells.

Stacking crit chance not only provides ignite chance, but it also stacks the damage, especially since inquisitor ignores resists.

Scold's Bridle is great to start the chain reaction. It also adds a nice 100% spell damage in the helm spot. With a channeling spell, It also explodes VMS at a very quick rate.

How to color the chest:

Step 1) Start with 2 sockets. Get blue or red (NO GREENS)

Step 2) Vorici craft 3 sockets. If you get the off-color, proceed to step 3. If you dont, vorici craft back to 2 sockets and repeat.

Step 3) Vorici craft 4 sockets. If you get the 4th off color, proceed to step 4. If you get a green, go to step 3.

Continue this process until you get to 5, or 6 off color. a 5l works just fine, so you can always stop there.

cool concept, and thank for the mentioning of my build.
btw since then they changed :Ngamahu's Sign Ruby Ring, so you can choose different way than the sowrds, (maybe just one, maybe none at all).

Hi,
this build is really fun. I was trying to build a non-crit version recently, and this gives me a lot of help.



Here is what i got from my test and calculate to show how frequent we can ignite a single target:

1.Blade Vortex(CWDT)
20 Stacks BV has 200ms per spin and that's 5 hit/s

2.Ball Lightning(CWDT)
It has 200ms every hit for a target per cast, and this is shared for all balls in one cast. A level 1 CWDT will easily get 250ms CD limit. So that should be 5 hit/s times 4. But it's hard to say this is a sustained CWDT ball lightning hit rate, because without AOE and projectile speed modifier, a single target will be hit by only 1~2 balls at the same time, with inc. AOE and slower projectile speed, the hit box will be 3`4 balls.
So that's roughly 5~10 hit/s without some optimization.

3.Firestorm(CWDT)
A sustained CWDT(LVL1) firestorm will have a 48.8 hit/s for a normal single target with skill duration modifier 165% (Tree 90% and 75% from inc. duration gem) and no AOE modifier.
-with Conc. Effect: 59.4 hit/s
-with Dying Sun: ~43 hit/s
-with Dying Sun and Conc. Effect: ~48 hit/s

4.Selfcasting
Without stacking a lot of cast speed:
Ball Lightning---bad for single target hit rate because it has a limit to hit each enemy which is 5 hit/s. It should be <25 hit/s even with some gem tweaking.
Magma Orb---without helmet enchant and threshold jewels, if it is positioned properly, it can reach 90~100 hit/s.
Firestorm---can reach 120~148 hit/s with sustained casting but it need to wait 5.3 seconds to reach this number.
Icestorm---The duration is 1.5s so it is worse than firestorm, can reach 88~109 hit/s.

5.Attack
Without stacking a lot of attack speed:
Cyclone---will do around 9 hit/s and Vaal Cyclone will do 15 hit/s, it's not efficient but feels good when playing this.
Double Strike---12.5 hit/s.
Vengeance---0.8333 hit/s. This can be used to activate some weapon effect.
Barrage---can reach 60 hit/s with Quill Rain.

As I tested, traps and SRS can ignite but can't deal you damage because the source of ignite isn't yourself. I'm still trying to find some other method to hit more frequently.
So if we can get a total number of 200+ ignites per second, the VMS damage will almost kill everything during its effect.



As ascendancy class:
I tried Zerphi Pathfinder and Berserker, they can both facetank bosses if not get one shot. Pathfinder will get 3 additional projectiles when using Dying Sun but too much maximum fire resistance(84%). Berserker triggers more CWDT and can AFK tank some stationary bosses. Still working on Berserker. May try to theory craft Assassin crit or Jugg Discharge.



BTW my questions are:

1.In your build, should Incinerate be better than Flameblast? They have the same cast speed but incinerate will hit more often so the target will be ignited more frequently. Although incinerate doesn't have a base crit chance.

2.Is it a must to have non-capped fire resistance? Will you get one shot by some fire damage like Detonate Dead?

Hey, first of all, great post!

You have done a lot more math than I have =P


to answer your questions:

1) Technically speaking, incinerate is the better choice against a boss in terms of detonating the vaal molten shell. However while mapping, flame blast has better utility during the times when VMS isnt up and you need to kill a tough rare quickly. It also can crit and instantly 1 shot a small group of monsters.

2) For the fire resist, I have tested at 75% fire resist, and it still works fine. It's actually a lot safe, doesnt get 1 shot by reflect, but it is noticeable slower until you get the vaal molten shell up. I would say you should adjust the resist to your level or risk. You can always carry a ruby flask/ dying sun if you want to adapt between 50-75% fire resist on the go.

How about use this instead of ICS and swap to dual daggers when cast vaal molten shell?
Essence crafted daggers give 338% crit chance. Also can use Vaal Sentencing if not enough.
