The Real Colosseum

Hi!

So the idea is for an event in which existing characters can participate.

There is an arena. Players who are spectating can move their characters around the arena viewing area. Just as in town, abilities are disabled.

Inside are the participants. Out of the arena come all sorts of nasty waves of interesting combinations of monsters.

The crowd can "request" special events by paying orbs. Aid can be given, if a spectator favors the participant. Labyrinth traps might come out in certain waves. Maybe people who don't like you can sabotage your survival efforts by putting traps in your arena a lot, who knows. Or give you the double-edged 'gift' of deadlier monster mods on enemies.

Surviving past certain waves gives you certain rewards. The people who survive the whole thing get a special trophy for their hideouts.

Spectating would be made up of players who are waiting in queue to enter the arena themselves, in addition to people who just want to support a guildmate or something like that. Entry into the arena could be a 'coveted' thing, even... (maybe it could be earned by completing the Uber Lab or something, who knows).

And that's where it will get abused and exploited. If you can have your friends affect what you encounter, they will rig it in the best way that suits your build. And screw the competition by causing the worst things happen for them.

Not to mention that the daily Lab prizes are already one of the worst things in PoE ever. But at least those jewels are only good for very few builds. Adding another niche that can be monopolized for months (or years already in some labs) by 1 greedy douchebag who cock-blocks everybody else - that's the last thing this game needs.

Ah, easy fix: The rewards diminish the more you are aided, and the rewards wax the more curveballs are thrown your way.

Maybe only hardcore players who have died can participate :P

Update:
You don't go to the Colosseum at the time of your choosing. At random moments during T15+ maps, you get snatched up by Slavers who feed the Colosseum stray Exiles for the People's amusement.
