Builds that make use of weapon swap

Are there any builds that make use of the weapon swap function explicitly? Particularly a Shadow build that takes down big groups of mobs on range with projectiles or bow attacks and goes melee for bosses or something like that? Weapon specific nodes don't work well with this ofc and you'd have to place weapon specific skill gems in the weapons to swap out.
I just thought it might be viable because it's so versatile and it would bring lots of fun to be able to play 2 different play styles at once. Has anyone ever tried this?
