First, you can only have one crafted mod on an item. You already have life, so you can't add any more(there are exceptions, but that's on the advanced side, and would be expensive anyways).

Second, you can only have 6 affixes, so that item is 'full'.

Third, you can't accidentally overwrite mods by master crafting. I assume you read/heard about somebody over writing an implicit with a lab enchant. That item doesn't have an implicit, so no harm in adding an enchant.

The life enchant would have been my recommendation without knowing more about your build and current stats.
theres a good chance it actually only has 5 mods. Theres a prefix on armour + energy shield hats:

+# to Armour / +# to maximum Energy Shield
iLvl 18: 9-25 / 9-12 (Anointed)

so it looks like it might have 3 suffixes =

Gems deal 30% more elemental
28% fire resist
25% stun recovery

and just 2 prefixes =

+23 armour / +9 es
+60 life (benched craft)

which means it would have a 3rd prefix free. As has been mentioned you cant bench craft a second mod, only 1 bench. You can add an extra mod with an exalted orb

but these are extremely expensive and its unlikely that you will get something good. You can improve your chances of getting something good, but you risk making the item worse by doing so. The bench life roll is 60, with an exalt you could hit up to 99 life, but the bench mod is blocking you hitting life with the exalt. So you could remove the bench craft, craft on "% armour + % energy shield" to block that stat instead, and then exalt the hat hoping to hit 90 life. You might hit something else thats rubbish like +22 mana, in which case you wasted the exalted orb, so then you take the benched "% armour + % energy shield" off and put the 60 life bench mod back on. However you could also hit +12 to maximum life, which is much lower than the 60 you currently have, and this would stop you being able to put the 60 benched life back on the item as it now has a life roll.

If you just exalt it with the 60 life still on it you can hit the hybrid life roll =

# to Armour / # to maximum Life
iLvl 30: 14-20 / 18-23 (Oyster's)
iLvl 46: 21-42 / 24-28 (Urchin's)
iLvl 62: 43-95 / 29-33 (Nautilus's)

which would give you up to 33 more life on the hat, combined with the 60 from the bench mod thats already on there thats up to 99 total life on the item. Given theres only 3 tiers of these hybrid rolls on hats and theres way more tiers of mana, ar% + es%, ar+es+stun recovery, item rarity, thorns, theres even + to minion gems that can roll, so much stuff it might hit, its unlikely you will land on a life roll, esp not a good one like Nautilus's.

The highest probability by a long way is that you waste the exalt and get virtually nothing worth while back. If you dont remove the 60 life roll though then at least the item cant get any worse and the only down side is that you wasted an exalted orb.

I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)
If you are playing in Harbinger League, you can use Orb of Annulment.
As far as I can see, the only mod you need on that helmet is 30% elemental damage.

Annulment Orb removes a random mod from an item, so you have the increased risk of losing elemental damage mod each time you use the Orb. But if you're lucky, you can reduce the number of mods to 3.

Then you can get "Can have multiple Crafted Mods" mod from Elreon. This way you will have 2 slots available for master crafting.
