Expansions download issue
hi. Can someone tell me how to manualy download all 4 expansion that came out?
I was off from this game for last 2-3 years and now im confused. in game says ''Atlas of Worlds'', but after many patches installed it didnt take any extra memory from my drive. I heard this game with all installed have 15+ GB on hard drive, but in my folder game size is only 7 GB. How to manualy instal expansions? When I start game launcher it automatic open games (log in screen). Last bumped on Apr 5, 2017, 6:05:54 PM

If you can log in and play the game, you have everything installed.

There is no separate download for expansions, it's patched to the game file which is still only about 8 gig ish on the standalone and 12 on steam

Speaking of Steam, is there any diference between that and this game launcher?
If I download Steam do I have to again download game and expansions? How is it work switching from this official launcher and Steam? I hope Steam does have download settings, so I could set limit on download speed. This game launcher doesnt have any settings which causes forced modem reset on my internet when passing limit. |

" The main difference is the way they perform updates. Steam is quite a bit slower than the standalone launcher at updating Path of Exile. " You don't download the first version of the game, then every update one at a time. You download the latest version of the game. That's all. " It depends on which order you do it in. If you want to start using Steam, you would need to link your Steam account and your Path of Exile account, and then download the Steam version of Path of Exile. " It does, and you can. :) Steam ⇒ Settings ⇒ Downloads ⇒ Limit bandwidth to: "VPs are not required to change their posting style. Tnx for replly.
So, how to link Steam account to PoE account? I assume many players are switched from PoE launcher to Steam. Better and stable bandwith is better then overlimit download speed. EDit: didnt see that link bellow looking like signature. Last edited by GreenArrow1986#0183 on Apr 5, 2017, 1:04:29 PM

Go here: https://www.pathofexile.com/my-account/steam
Unless I'm mistaken, most players making the move are actually leaving Steam and moving over to the standalone client. There's a 68 page thread here about not using Steam any longer. There's no comparable thread for using Steam instead of the standalone client. With respect, if your modem is resetting, that is a problem with your modem. That isn't normal - and your assumption that people would prefer the Steam client (even with slower updates) seems to be based on the assumption we all have that problem. We don't. If you want to migrate over to Steam, then by all means go ahead. But if I were in your shoes, I'd try to fix the modem instead. "VPs are not required to change their posting style. Can you tell me why Steam version of game is big 12 GB, and normal game size is around 7 GB?
What is those extra 5 GB? About my modem, its given by my internet provider and it cant be fixer. Its just the bandwith limit I can have with my modem that provider gives me and I pay for 5 MB/s, but this game client push up to 9 MB/s which causes resets. Long story short, most of what you download is Content.ggpk. This is filled with individual files, and during an update some of them might be deleted, more will be downloaded and squeezed in wherever they fit, and sometimes there'll be gaps which are too small to fit anything.
That is known as fragmentation. The .ggpk extension stands for Grinding Gears PacK, and only used by GGG (as the name implies). Steam doesn't recognize the extension and assumes it is dealing with one large file, so it tends to be inefficient. The standalone client is much better at utilizing the space allocated to Content.ggpk, as it is created by GGG, who obviously understand how their own .ggpk "file" operates. I think solutions like Steam, Origin, etc are better in case you have cheap modem like me.
My phone line/internet cant go above 5 MB/s without causing problem as my line support 5-6 MB as maximum. I'll instal now game on Steam. Tnx for tips. |
