PoE installs successfully but refuses to start
Hi GGG,
I'm a long time PoE player. I recently tried to start playing after a hardware change (new motherboard and SSD), which forced a OS reinstall. Ever since the OS was reinstalled, I cannot launch PoE. Environment: - Dell XPS 13 9343 - Windows 10 Professional Here are steps to reproduce the problem: 1) Log in to www.pathofexile.com 2) Download the installer 3) Execute the installer, including giving administrator permissions -- this produces a message saying "Path Of Exile Installed Successfully" 4) Launch Path of Exile What should happen: - The PoE client should start, and then proceed to download the game files. What actually happens: - The PoE client never starts. If I have Task Manager open, I can see that Path of Exile runs for around one second before disappearing. AFAIK, no log files are produced anywhere, so I cannot give you an error message. Thanks for your help! Last bumped on Mar 31, 2017, 5:57:43 AM

Hi Xikini, thanks for replying!
My windows updates should be up to date. I keep them on the default settings and they are installed automatically. I don't recall installing the C++ redistributable, which probably means I didn't. I went to Microsoft's website and there are a number of options: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/search.aspx?q=redistributable+package. Which version does PoE need? I also looked around the PoE website and can't find that information. I tried installing both the x86 and the x64 versions of the 2010 redist based on this comment from Chris Wilson: https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/3g7hw3/path_of_exile_on_windows_10/ Even after installing those two, PoE still refuses to launch. Thanks for your help! |
