Old player coming back

I played some PoE when it was quite new. Have a lvl 79 maruder and can pick my skills from start. Any general newb tips on how to get started? It seems like the game have grown a lot since I played, when there was only 3 acts and so on. Any tips on a good item cheap build for lvl:ing and playing maps (if you still play maps now adays, if not what´s the new thing?) :)

Maps are still definitely a thing.

Ascendancy classes make almost any build at minimum viable for mid tier maps. Your best bet is to hop over to the class forums look at the updated lists of the first post in each class you are interested in, and check their necessary items approximate costs with either poe.trade or poe.ninja and pick what fits you.
