Issues with elemental reflect. Getting insta killed.
Hello. I am currently playing on merciless difficulty with my arc build. I am one hitting most enemies and deal around 14K damage. My level is 66.
This obviously backfires when random elemental resist monsters spawn. I can not even react swiftly enough because I die almost instantaneously. I would greatly appreciate any help. Here is my gear and skill tree. https://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAABAUBAAKWBAcFQgdjCaoMUg3RDkgRLRFQEZYVUBa_GGoabBslG_EdFB1PIG4qCyycLR81uTlSPAVBlkcGS65Ms1AwVytYB13yXypfamNDZJ1tGXBSfIN-x3_GgpuJ04uMjDaOZI9Gj_qVIJo7m6Gdrp_foqOnCKcrqLmus7b6vYLAZsCawfPLvdDQ0PXSfNWm2VvZ_OOE5CLli-aB6QLr5Ovu6_XtPO988h3y4fem-d3-sw==?accountName=Erik9631&characterName=Secluder NOTE: I am looking for a permanent solution. I am going for an energy shield build. My shield is currently at 3k, and i want to increase it to 10K. I want to get the chaos inoculation perk and vaal pact perk which should make make me last longer. Flasks are an option but thanks to my damage, i wont have time to use them. Thanks for the help in advance. Last edited by Erik9631#2076 on Jan 21, 2017, 12:13:16 PM Last bumped on Jan 22, 2017, 11:32:10 AM

vaal pact + more es buffer (ci + more es% nodes) should solve your reflect problem.
One note about the gear, your dagger has crit chance crafted on it. that is local crit chance that only applies to attacks made with the dagger, arc is a spell, its not an attack. You want to remove that mod and go to the headstones bench that catarina provides, theres a mod there called "critical strike chance for spells", thats the one you want to use :). I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

low HP + lightning damage (wide damage range) + crit = no surprises to die to reflect, even with capped resists. your resists seem to be sub-zero though :P
you obviously need decent HP and capped elemental resists (no.1 priority) and you should be fine. then start thinking about vaal pact IGN: Eric_Lindros CET: Timezone Last edited by Ludvator#6587 on Jan 21, 2017, 12:35:33 PM

" Thanks for the help. I greatly appreciate it. I know about the dagger tho. It was cheap in the shop and the crafted bonus was already there. I did not bother with it ever since. Also what resistance should I go for? I am converting damage lighting to cold with the brotherhood ring. Should I go for both? Last edited by Erik9631#2076 on Jan 21, 2017, 5:54:58 PM

cap all your elemental resists to 75% in merciless as a top priority for survival, for sure. but if youre dealing cold and lightning damage probably best to cap those first if you have to prioritize.

Changes to gear will help a ton.
As those before me have said, Capping Res is super important. Proposed Passive Tree Fix

Just something quick I whipped up while at work. I do believe it can be fine tuned a bit more. If you're aiming for CI, but still trying to transition through, grab the Melding and Written in Blood nodes until you're ready to swap over (shove in that Energy from Within under the Jewel socket under Melding). Level using Life Gear for an easier experience. Grab any necessary +30 stat nodes until you get them in your gear. Switch over to CI when you have 4-5k+ ES (or when you're comfortable. 4-5k mark is my comfy zone) If you run a Blasphemy Warlord's Mark, you should have no problem with mana at all. I have no idea why you grabbed those AOE nodes to the left of the Templar, since it benefits you very little. Fill the Jewel Sockets with something like % ES and Crit/Damage and whatnot. Gear Rundown: *Im using my crappy gear as an example. Ignore those gem setups* Helm:
Spoiler
See if you can find something w/ 200+ ES as a starting base. 200 ES w. dual res and some should be pretty cheap on the market. I rolled that one up there, so it's kinda crappy in terms of res, but it works. Hubris Circlets :P Chest:
Spoiler
Obviously, a 6L Vaal Regalia would be ideal, but assuming you're on a budget, you can keep your current piece, you can probably get a 5L vaal regalia for a decent price (15c or so). You can also roll a nice ES + Res then use a Jeweller's Touch on it for a easy 5L (15c or so on BSC). If you equip this with the proper ES nodes, you can see your ES skyrocket. Gloves:
Spoiler
Amusingly, you didn't link your gloves, so I have no idea what you're using. Try to go for something along the lines of 150+ ES + Res and you'll be fine.
Boots:
Spoiler
Asking you to get a Skyforth is just silly, so you can get away with 120+ ES boots with res, and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED it has 30% Move Speed on it too. What I have here is also crap, but again, rolled it. Amulet
Spoiler
Once you transition into CI, you'll either want to use a Eye of Chayula to avoid Stun (or give up your other ring slot and use a Valyrium), but for now, get one with Stats, Life, and Res. Ring:
Spoiler
Your first Ring slot is taken by the mandatory Call of the Brotherhood.
Your second Ring slot should either be the Valyrium (if you're not using the Eye of Chayula), or something like this: Here's a bad example, but rings like this with a huge chunk of Res can help you until you find something better. Belt:
Spoiler
Spoiler
Crystal Belts are your endgame, but in the meantime, use a Heavy Belt if you're tight on Strength, Leather Belt if you just want a bit easier time leveling as life, Chain Belt if you're just lazy, or you can also use an Axioum. What I have up there was just to cover res. Weapon:
Spoiler
You have a ton of options here. Crit Daggers are probably your go to, and I dont have a good one to show you. A Divinarius is an super cheap option in the mean time, and will probably do better than your current one. Shield:
Spoiler
Your shield is actually much better than mine, but that's pretty much what you're gunning for. 350+ ES, Spell Crit, Some res, Spell Damage if you want, etc.
With my crappy gear, I broke 10k ES easily when I went CI. ---- [Gem Setups]
Spoiler
Weapon: Whirling Blades - Faster Attacks - Fortify
-Generic WB setup. Can't really go wrong. Shield: Herald of Ice/Thunder - Curse on Hit - [Second Curse of Choice] -I definitely prefer Herald of Ice for the clear speed, and the second curse can be Poacher's Mark if you're having trouble getting Power Charges, or a Elemental Weakness if you want more damage. You can also use Defensive curses like Temp Chains and Enfeeble if you're taking too much damage. Chest: Arc - Spell Echo - Inc Critical Strikes - [Wild] - [Wild] - [Wild] - Obviously this setup gets tricky. The first 3 are the easy core, the last 2(3) are the harder ones. If you're seriously having issues surviving, throwing in a Life Leech isn't the worst idea. Empower is always a good wild Card. Faster Casting is fine, Controlled Destruction can be ridiculous. Go play around, you should have plenty of options. I do recommend that you find a high quality Inc Crit Strikes. It does wonders. 4 Link Setups: Blasphemy - Warlord's Mark - [Wild] - [Wild] -Don't put Inc AOE on your Blasphemy Warlords. It'll actually jack up the Mana Reserved. You dont need to snipe your enemies from a map and a half away. You should stay medium-ranged away so you get your Blasphemy in. You're gonna have movespeed and WB as quick getaways. Dont' be afraid. Cast when Damage Taken - Immortal Call - Vortex - [Wild] -A very simple CWDT setup, the generic wild card there is Increase Duration. Immortal Call can save your ass more times than you care to remember, and Vortex chills enemies while they're in there, a good passive getaway for you. Note: this wont save you vs Elemental Damage. Orb of Storms - Power Charge on Crit - [Wild] - [Wild] -An OoS setup is actually very beneficial. There are many ways to abuse this setup. > OoS - Power Charge on Crit - Inc Critical Strikes - [Wild] -A very easy and consistent way for you to get Power Charges. This way, you dont have to rely on Herald of Ice/Thunder, and you can use this while bossing to upkeep your charges. Wild card can be a Flame Dash (can get up and down cliffs/across ledges, which WB cannot do), or something else you're leveling/keeping another utility > OoS - Power Charge on Crit - Curse on Hit - [Second Curse of Choice] -This setup does 2 in one- albeit you wont generate Power Charges as quickly unless you have sufficient Crit elsewhere. It does save you more room though. See if you also fit in a Vaal Discipline + Inc Duration somewhere. It's a very nice "OHSHIT" button. ---- I really went off on a tangent eh? D: Just be careful when you see a Ele Reflect mob. MEMORIZE THAT GOD DAMN AURA THEY HAVE. It's a swirly tri color insignia. If you can somehow afford one later on, a Vessel of Vinktar will help in this regard greatly. Vaal Pact + Leech, higher ES pool, Cap res. Pretty much all there is. Unless you 1 shot yourself from full to zilch, then Leech wont do anything for you. (Damage still goes through first). |
