Link between earthquake and attack speed
Many guides take attack speed nodes in their EQ build, but I can't really see the use for it. Can anyone help me here?

" Attack speed allows you to get below particular thresholds, depending on certain things. You're basically looking to take your attack speed under a threshold of where your aps is just below a multiple of your earthquake skill duration. Generally speaking, this means if your EQ is using less duration, it comes in around .75, so you want an attack speed just below .75 or just below .375 (very difficult to impossible with most 2hander builds). If you have the helm enchant that reduces earthquake duration, it brings the duration to something like .47 or so, so you want to get enough attack speed to get less than .47 APS (getting 2:1 is practically impossible at this point). Attack speed also allows you to move more quickly between attacks and applies to your movement skills. It's important to note that if your attack speed is far below a threshold (either 1:1 or 2:1), holding down your attack key is likely to be a dps loss rather than timing your main attack to land after your aftershock. For example, if you have a duration of .75 and an attack speed of .6, holding the key down gives you 1.666 attacks at 100% and .8444 attacks at 140% = 280% damage per second, while holding for the .75 time gives you 1.333 attacks at 100% and 1.333 attacks at 140% = 320% damage per second. TL:DR; APS is only relevant to earthquake insofar as to whether or not you can get an extra full attack without delaying your next aftershock by more than you gain from that attack. Listed Attack time needs to be ~0.02 seconds longer than Earthquake's duration to get a smooth 1:1 swing, from my experience.
Higher attack speed is super nice for clearing though. With an ~exact 1:1 rate, there's a lot of time between two packs, due to the swing animation being so slow. Not great. |
