How overcapped should I be?
So I just got my ascendancy (necro: CoD) and find myself surprised to have between 100 and 140 elemental resistances in merciless (with auras). I had focused on maximizing these while leveling and now when it all comes together I have way more than 75. So...
- is this what I want for maps? How low will my resists get reduced? - or should I spec out of this and focus on having more chaos resist or dps? I reserve half my life without shavs and rely on tons of minions for meat shield so far Underrated stats: Basic human decency, small quantum of respect, microportion of compassion Last bumped on Oct 7, 2016, 2:54:22 PM

Ele weak will subtract 34 resists. If you want to be overcapped you need 169.
However, you can simply choose to remain at 135 and throw in a flask or gear swap on ele weak maps. IGN: Arlianth

If you want to be able to ignore elemental weakness in maps, you'll need to be at least 34% overcapped (109% total on merciless; 169% in hideout). Some specific builds may want more; a righteous fire build would probably want 70-80% overcapped fire resist at least to safeguard against an elemental weakness map where enemies cast flammability.
The bottom line is that you should be capped without any auras or curses affecting you. That way if you do encounter an elemental weakness map you can counter it with purity of elements. You'll need 7% overcapped if you want to be able to fully counter it with a level 20 aura, but being 7% under the cap is still manageable. Maps may lower maximum resistances by as much as 16%. " Thank you! I had actually run Purity of Elements as one of my standard auras pre-CoD-Ascendancy, now I seem not to need it with the extra 20%. I think I may have been confused because the hideout, for reasons that seem obscure to me, does not apply the resistance penalties of its difficulty level. So that is 16% (map mod) + 34% (Ele Weak) = 50%, thus I need about 125% to be safe? Underrated stats: Basic human decency, small quantum of respect, microportion of compassion

" No, there is no way to counteract the -16% maximum resistances map mod other than raising your maximum resistances, which Purity of Elements gem does not do. You can have 999% total resistance stat in each element and still be reduced to 59% resistance by that map mod. I would personally just over cap by 34% if I were the kind of person that wanted to overcap. Need game info?
