How to get the game to run cooler in background/minimized
My laptop is an old 2 core semi gaming rig. It can run PoE fine but it would be nice if I can minimize it or background it and have my laptop run at lower temps if not brought up as I am running a summoner in essence and don't want to spectre farm every time I take a half hour break or whatever. Minimizing already does reduce cpu and ram usage slightly but it would be nice to be lower so I can turn my fan stand off while doing whatever else.
Changing graphics in the ini to 5 or anything makes no difference. The client being up is what makes it run at a basic increased temp. Any ways to get my laptop to be able to go back to idle or close to it without it being against ToS? The only option you got is to get a better laptop cooling pad or find one where you can use custom fans (less noisy and better cooling). But since it's an old dual core anyway, don't bother. There is only so much a CPU can do and these dual core ones are not designed for multitasking in a modern environment.
For now I recommend you buy a new PC with a better CPU. Even entry level laptops will beat yours in terms of price/performance. |

" Yeah I know, however as a new computer isn't going to be an option for quite a while I was reminiscing about how D3 could have FPS set to background low levels and my CPU could idle a fair bit. "It's all clearer now

If your gpu is supported you can try to cap your fps externally with a special program. For example RadeonPro or MSI Afterburner. I use to play with capped fps, not because my PC won´t get it, I´m in fear that some maps will kill my gpu due to some effects that makes my temps abnormally high, resulting in a shutdown. So I use a framelimiting prog to feel a little safer and to lower the noise my fans will do.
But I´m not sure if it supports Mobile GPUs. Or you can have a look on the prog "Notebook Hardware Control". That´s sth I use with my old laptop (old means about 12 years), maybe it could help you. But be careful what to do: All these progs can brick your lappy, be always sure and informed what you are doing. Last edited by Stephalem#7238 on Sep 9, 2016, 1:08:02 AM

for me, gpu load already reduces dramatically when i just open the skill tree.
i always do that when i pause the game. age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!
