Starting Righteous Fire and swapping weapons

I've heard that "there is no snapshoting anymore".
But does this also apply to support gems?
If I don't have enough sockets in my main setup, can I start RF from the swap and switch weapons afterwards?
I know that the debuff remains, but are the support gems effective as well? Or is it just bare RF that's burning?

If you swap weapons and rf was in your weapon, then it removes the area damage and keeps the degen, so nope.
