Herald Of Ash/Culling Strike

As the title says. How does Culling Strike interact with the "overkill" ignite on Herald of Ash?

If the enemy gets culled (ie: ends up on less than 10% HP but more than 0 HP after a culling hit), then they die with no overkill damage. If you bring them straight down from above 10% to 0 HP, then overkill will still happen.

So basically culling strike means HoA will ignite less often.

Thank you. The question then OFC is, is it still worth using for the 15%...and I'll just have to see as things progress, really.

In my experience, HoA's overkill ignite is not that great. Unless you need lots of ignites for your build (eg: Her Blessing, Flame Surge, Emberwake, oro's, etc...), or have built specifically around doing high damage to single targets.

15% for 25% reserved is about as good as Hatred's 30-ish % for 50% reserved. Hatred ends up being a bit better as you level it up though.

If you dont know it, theres a non-official wiki with information to the most things:

In this case the answer to this question could even be found directly on the subpage of
Herald of Ash: http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Herald_of_Ash

Culling Strike: When using an attack with culling strike, the overkill effect will only apply if the damage from the killing hit would have taken the monster to less than 0 life.

I do know it, but I've had the wiki be wrong before, and I always SEE an ignite go off from HoA, which seemed off if the ignite does no damage. Given these replies, it seems that, for whatever reason, you still ignite with HoA even if the ignite does no damage.

As for Hatred...I prefer to split my damage as little as possible, so I don't go above two types of damage. Makes life easier when rolling maps, IMO. So as I'm using Added Fire Damage, and Hatred would be cold, I'm not using Hatred. Keep to just Phys and Fire. I've got a few tri elemental builds planned, but this is not one of them.

HoA will still ignite enemies if you kill them outright. So unless you are somehow never killing enemies with damage from hits (eg: by using Southbound), you should see HoA ignite things still even when using Culling strike.

If hes using culling strike he doesnt have to use southbound, he just has to do less than 10% of the
enemys life in dmg per hit. At that point I would question your build rather than the interaction of
Culling Strike/HoA tho.
