Please create a Lobby with Chat Channels

Basically a mimic of the old d2 lobby with trade channels.

This would just make the game more gg.

+1 to get this rolling.

I suggested this back in closed beta. Like a tavern you access and it's just a chat room with your avatar. There could even be a micro transaction fee for the right to access the "tavern" as a hangout. There wouldn't be anything there but chat so its the perfect sort of content to sell in a non pay to win game. One time flat fee of like $20 to gain access to the tavern. And you think... No body will pay to chat in an old avatar style chat lobby. But they will. It's exclusive. You can only go in if you have access. Gamers love that crap. The whole I have something you don't have or I can do something you cannot do. I think it's a great revenue option that ggg should consider.

Uhh, what... I guess I don't afk often enough. When I'm done looting and what not I just log.

yeah, but there will always be a certain portion of the community that likes to be social.

IMO this was one of the problems with D3 is they made a basically single player online game and

forgot that ARPG players, while not quite to the extent of WoW, do like to be social.

This has my vote. Loved this aspect of D2.
This idea would be great, somewhere between logging in and being in game.

A global chat area.
A trade chat area.
Ability to make private channels (with the option of password protecting them).
Your current character icon somewhere on screen, with a button to open the character select screen.

This will probably save GGG some money since you wont need to sit in game to trade or afk, and there is a whole lot of network crap going on when you are just sitting in town.

The chat lobby could be expanded in the future to show public games (using the games default way of showing these for your character) or later even letting you choose a level range or act.

It doesn't really need any sort of act selection given the way waypoints work.

Can see this would take a lot of work. Like Act 4 should come first, or come with this. The D2 chat lobby was really awesome, Blizz is stupid to have removed that from D3.
So, if I understand correctly, this would remove trade chat? What about global chat? Why not keep it like it is?

The more obvious question however, is why does this need to be implemented? What hole does this fill? You can currently be social in Global chat.

I don't get it. Explain.

It would not impact in-game chat in any way. The way in-game chat works is it may not be able to be linked with the lobby, or the chat lobby would also use the same chat instances (perhaps with a way to switch between them).

I don't know if I like the idea of a cash shop option (though I'd go for it personally if the price wasn't outlandish), but a great hell yeah to the idea of this sort of chat thing. Even if we access it directly from town, the ability to chat with our friends, no matter where they are in the game, in a chat room environment, is desperately needed. I think it'd be better to just be an inherent part of the game, though, because that way, there could be a n00b channel where mods and bots could go to answer basic questions.

But it should. The in-game chat really needs a complete overhaul (channels rather than instances, a more dedicated screen space). One of the very few areas of the game where I'd say that outright.

Fortunately, I think GGG knows this and is working on it. They've only hinted at it though, so I can only hope.
