Gamepedia Path of Exile wiki commerce spam

I use extensions to prevent tracking of personal data, which sites have been visted, which links have been clicked and things like that. I prefer to be the one who knows myself better than the very next internet business man.

Today I noticed ( after being nagged by Gamepedia's new huge subscription advertising on every wiki page ) that Gamepedia ( which calls itself "Official Path of Exile Wiki", webpage title ) services almost 16 ( as of today ) advertisement trackers.

- Amazon Associates
- AppNexus
- CPX interactive
- Criteo
- Doubleclick
- Google AdServices
- Index Exchange ( formerly Casale Media )
- Lijit
- Lotame
- NetRatings SiteCensus
- PubMatic
- PulsePoint
- Rubicon
- Scorecard Research Beacon
- ADTECH
- Google Analytics

So other than forcing a request to buy a subscription upon every wiki user on every wiki page they obviously already make money by selling data to those tracking companies.

Now I wonder :
- Who authorizes them to call it the "Official Path of Exile wiki" - since they are obviously very money focussed and seemingly have no special interest in the game or the community - do they pay a license fee to GGG ?

- Do volunteer wiki maintainers know that they "work" for a company without recompense ( I suspect )

I dont want to blame this company - I just noticed that it is a company and not a community support site driven by fan(s) / supporter(s). Personally I have a feeling the "official wiki" should actually move to a site which is not driven by a business oriented company. As far as I know there are many sites which offer free game oriented wikis without selling out contributors and visitors.

This post expresses my impressions and resulting conclusions and does not intend to accuse a company - a company does what it has to do to make money. However I think a wiki made by unpaid volunteers should not be the base for others to make profit. If the wiki is actually maintained by employees there is nothing bad about it.

I'm not sure how much of Gamepedia's cash flow is profit and how much is just paying for the servers. Once we know that information, then I'll decide where I stand here.

They probably contacted GGG after they became the most used/edited/up-to-date PoE Wiki, and GGG agreed they could be "Official" with some terms(I assume).
