Empty box with gems

Fond a box in corrupted area, rolled support gems, caustic clouds and regaled with skeletons. Killed mobs and.. box is empty.

unless you rolled "+ additional items" the box can be empty, yes.

Also, it's known that if the box is near either other objects or the sides of the map, the items inside may or may not drop, as the game doesn't think that there is enough room for them to do so.
